Early next year, we can expect faster fiber broadband services from Google Fiber.
The company has announced that it will start rolling out a major internet speed upgrade in early 2023. Google will start offering 5Gbps and 8Gbps plans for symmetrical upload and download.
According to Engadget, the 5Gbps plan is priced at $125 while the 8GBps one will cost $150. In addition, subscribers will get a Wi-Fi 6 routers and up to two mesh extenders to ensure that there is a robust internet speeds in their households.
Google Fiber Promises Upgrade in its Internet Services
According to PC Mag, last month, Google already teased about the upcoming speed upgrades for Fiber, saying that subscribers can get up to a 20x increase over its 1Gbps baseline service.
While it seems that a 20Gbps service will have to wait for some time, subscribers will instead get 5Gbps and 8Gbps upgrades.
"5 Gig will make it easier to upload and download simultaneously, no matter the file size. And 8 Gig will make sure that everything you are doing online is happening in near real time," according to a blog post from director of product management, Amalia O'Sullivan.
Google will be testing these new Fiber speed tiers early, and some lucky Google Fiber subscribers will be able to be the first to try it.
"If you are a current Google Fiber customer, especially in Utah, Kansas City or West Des Moines, you could be trying out these new products as early as next month," O'Sullivan says.
Google Fiber's previous plans include the 1Gbps for $70. In 2020, it offered the 2Gbps plan for $100.
The 5Gbps and 8Gbps tiers are a big jump from the previous 2Gbps plan. It would likely benefit heavy internet users for it would cut the download waiting time.

Google Targets Heavy Internet Users With New Tiers
According to Google, the two upcoming faster internet tiers are for heavy internet users including "creative professionals, people who work in the cloud, and households with a lot of people accessing the internet."
Now that Google Fiber is offering faster internet connectivity, certain cable internet plans seem expensive already.
For instance, Comcast is offering 6Gbps service in some areas, but it is priced at $300 per month on contract. Despite the high cost, it doesn't come with symmetrical uploads.
But for some time, Google Fiber seemed to be in some kind of trouble, as per The Verge. In 2016, it laid off some of its employees. The company also decided to leave Louisville, Kentucky.
However, it seems to be getting its act together as it announced big expansion plans in August. Its plans include bringing Fiber to states like Nebraska, Nevada, and Idaho.
The announcement of its new speed tiers on Thursday also indicates that the company is following a much better direction now.
Google Fiber is part of the Access division of the Alphabet company. Among its services is providing fiber-to-the-premises in the United States. It is offering broadband Internet and IPTV to some locations in the country.
