Undoubtedly one of Koei Tecmo's most successful video game franchises, Dynasty Warriors has introduced gamers to ancient Chinese history, specifically the historical text "Records of the Three Kingdoms."
The hack-and-slash game features over 90 characters that are fictionalized depictions of actual people who are important in ancient Chinese history. However, only 14 have appeared in all nine of the francise's main series games.

Dynasty Warriors
While you try to guess who the 14 characters are, let us talk a little bit more about Dynasty Warriors.
The series began with the first game, which was released in 1997 and shares the same name as the franchise. What makes the first Dynasty Warriors game different from the rest in the main series is that it is the only fighting game. The rest, as previously mentioned, are hack-and-slash games.
Eight more gaves have been released after the first game as of press time. They are Dynasty Warriors 2, Dynasty Warriors 3, and the numbering continues all the way to Dynasty Warriors 9.
The franchise also a number of spin-off and related games, including the Samurai Warriors franchise.

Cao Cao

In ancient Chinese history, Cao Cao is considered one of the most central figures in the Three Kingdoms period. He is credited for laying the foundations of the state of Wei, otherwise known as Cao Wei
Dian Wei
Faction: Wei
Dian Wei was a military general who served under Cao Cao and was known for his immense strength. He is also known for wielding a halberd-like weapon
Diaochan
Faction: Other
Diaochan is one of the so-called Four Beauties of ancient Chinese history. The Four Beauties are, as its name suggests, four women who were best known for their beauty.
Guan Yu
Faction: Shu
Like Dian Wei, Guan Yu is also a military general. But instead of serving under Cao Cao, he served under another warlord named Liu Bei, who is credited for the founding the state of Shu Han. He and another military general named Zhang Fei (we'll get to him later), had a brotherly relationship with Liu Bei.
Lu Bu
Faction: Other
Lu Bu was a military general and warlord known for his fierce temper and lack of loyalty when it comes to allegiances. He betrayed many of his allies. He even murdered some of the allies he betrayed.
Lu Xun
Faction: Wu
A military general of Wu, Lu Xun served under Sun Quan, who is the founder of the Eastern Wu dynasty. He was instrumental in the invasion of Jing Province, which led to the defeat and death of Guan Yu.
Sun Shangxiang
Faction: Wu
The daughter of warlord Sun Jian and sister of warlords Sun Ce and Sun Quan, Sun Shangxiang, otherwise known as Lady Sun, is also the wife of Liu Bei.
Taishi Ci
Faction: Wu
Best known for his archery skills, Taishi Chi as a military general who served under the likes of Sun Ce and Sun Quan.
Xiahou Dun
Faction: Wei
Xiahou Dun is another military general who served under Cao Cao and is considered one of the latter's most trusted generals. Xiahou Dun assisted Cao Cao in a number of battles, including those against Lu Bu and Liu Bei.
Xu Zhu
Faction: Wei
While he started as a bodyguard of Cao Cao, Xu Zhu eventually became a military general in his own right. Despite his size and strength, he was known for having an honest, even-tempered person.
Zhang Fei
Faction: Shu
As mentioned earlier, Zhang Fei shared a close brotherly relationship with Liu Bei and Guan Yu. Like Guan Yu, he also served as a military general under Liu Bei.
Zhao Yun
Faction: Shu
Zhao Yun was a military general who first served under a warlord named Gongsun Zan. He eventually served under Liu Bei.
Zhou Yu
Faction: Wu
Zhou Yu was warlord Sun Ce's strategist as well as military general. When Sun Ce passed, Zhou Yun continued to serve under the former's younger brother, Sun Quan.
Zhuge Liang
Faction: Shu
One of the best strategists of his time and known for his intelligence, Zhuge Liang was a statesman and later the regent of the state of Shu Han. You will often find him depicted holding a fan made of crane feathers.
