4 Car Museums in Germany You Should Add to Your Bucket List

There are different kinds of museums all over the world. There are art museums. There are science museums. There are even food museums! And of course, there car museums as well for all the car enthusiasts out there.

If you know cars well enough, then you will not be surprised that one of the best places to find car museums to visit is none other than Germany. In fact, we put together a list of German car museums you should totally add to your bucket list!

Autostadt

Located in Wolfsburg, Autostadt is a visitor attraction that is actually adjacent to a Volkswagen factory. Per the official Autostadt website, among the things that visitors can expect to see are the Zeithaus or the Automobile Museum, Volkswagen Brand Experience, and even work stations where guests can enjoy a variety of activities.

Like the other car museums on this list, the Autostadt offers guided tours. One of these tours even includes a ride up a tower where visitors "will experience the spectacular technology of the car towers and enjoy a fantastic view over the city of Wolfsburg."

BMW Museum

Established in 1973, the BMW Museum is located in the Bavarian capital of Munich. It underwent renovations from 2004 to 2008 due to the construction and opening of BMW Welt, which is located directly opposite the car museum.

The BMW Museum has seven exhibition houses, which are as follows:

  • House of Brand
  • House of the Company
  • House of Design
  • House of the Motorcycle
  • House of the Motorsport
  • House of the Series
  • House of Technology

Mercedes-Benz Museum

Located in Stuttgart, the Mercedes-Benz Museum has over 1,500 exhibits visitors can enjoy, according to the museum's official website.

Among the exhibitions that you will find in the Mercedes-Benz Museum are the exhibit dedicated to the automobile company's racing history, the exhibit showcasing cars purchased by celebrities and notable people in history, and an exhibit that houses cars used for ambulance, rescue, and recovery operations.

The Mercedes-Benz Museum offers guided tours for in depth learning experience.

Porsche Museum

Another car museum located in Stuttgart is none other than the Porsche Museum, which first opened its doors in 2009. So what can you expect when you visit the Porsche Museum?

According to its official website, "Around 95 cars tell the story of the sports car manufacturer in exciting exhibitions, with real dynamism being brought by the regular rotation of the exhibits and the holding of special exhibitions." You can expect to find the iconic Porsche 356 "No. 1" Roadster as well as different generations of the Porsche 911.

Guided tours as well as car rentals are offered by the museum.
