Apple has discontinued sales of the Apple TV HD now that it is selling the Apple TV 4K at a much lower price. Apple TV HD is the cheaper alternative to the company's 4K streaming box.
Apple TV HD is no Longer Listed on Apple's Website
According to a report by MacRumors, Apple has stopped selling the Apple TV HD in its online store.
Apple TV HD is no longer listed in Apple's online store. Apple HD 4K is the only streaming device currently available on the company's site.
Originally announced in 2015 as the fourth-generation Apple TV, the HD became the budget option when Apple rolled out the 4K model.
Last year, Apple repackaged the HD to include a new Siri Remote. However, CNET noted that it maintained its A8 processor when the Apple TV 4K already has an updated A15.
Apple TV HD is priced at $149. The 128GB model of the Apple TV 4K is also priced at $149, but it includes support for up to 2160p resolution.
Moreover, Apple TV 4K also has support for HDR10 and Dolby Vision. Likewise, it has a Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6 support, Bluetooth 5, and Thread support.
While they have the same price, Apple TV HD lacks support for the abovementioned features.
Meanwhile, the cheaper Apple TV 4K is the 64GB model, which has a starting price of $129. The difference between the 64GB model and the 128GB model is the former does not include an Ethernet port or support for Thread.

Apple Introduces the Apple TV 4K
On Tuesday, Apple announced the next generation of Apple TV 4K. The company claimed that the device is "more powerful, entertaining, and affordable" than ever. In addition, it offers impressive cinematic quality.
The new Apple TV 4K is powered by the A15 Bionic chip that the company claims to bring faster performance and more fluid gameplay.
Users will surely enjoy using the device as it promises endless entertainment options on the biggest screen.
It has HDR10+ support plus Dolby Vision; therefore, users can watch their favorite movies and TV shows in the best quality possible. It runs tvOS and comes with the popular Siri Remote.
Users can choose between the two configurations of Apple TV 4K: Apple TV 4K (Wi-Fi), which offers 64GB of storage; and Apple TV 4K (Wi-Fi + Ethernet), which has 128GB of storage.
Now that Apple already launched its new Apple TV 4K with an A15 processor, it made no sense to choose an Apple TV HD that only has an A8 processor, as per The Verge.
The new Apple TV 4K does not only come with double the storage but also support for much higher resolution content.
It's practical to get the cheaper HD when the 4K was still priced at $179 last year. However, now that the HD and the Apple TV 4K are both priced at $149, it made no sense to choose the former over the latter.
According to Apple, the new Apple TV 4K will start to be available on November 4. Meanwhile, Apple TV HD is currently on sale for $99 at places like B&H, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart.
