BlackBerry recently sent out press invites for its event scheduled for Sept. 18, where the company may launch the BlackBerry Z30 smartphone.
There's not long to go before the Canadian company sell its mobile business, but Blackberry is also planning an event, probably to launch a new handset or the BlackBerry Messenger, commonly known as BBM, for other platforms like Android and iOS.
"BlackBerry has been building up some mystery by sending out event invites around the world. First they were mentioned for Malaysia on September 18th and now France and then India too. The first poster said they heard hints that it was all about the BlackBerry Z30 but it could just as easily be about the BlackBerry Messenger Cross Platform launch," reports Berry Reviews.
In January this year, the company launched its all-touch flagship smartphone, the BlackBerry Z10. However, the handset seems to have failed to impress customers, as previous reports have suggested that several customers are returning the handset.
BlackBerry also launched its traditional QWERTY handsets, the top-end BlackBerry Q10 and the entry- to mid-level BlackBerry Q5 this year. The competition in the smartphone market has increased rapidly in the last decade and many customers have also shifted to the use of touchscreen handsets rather than a mobile phone with a physical keyboard.
A MobileSyrup report claims that it has a leaked internal document for Canadian carrier Bell, which shows the BlackBerry Z30. The report suggests that the handset may also head to other Canadian carriers such as Rogers and TELUS and will have a price tag of $650 (outright). The MobileSyrup report also indicates that Bell dealers will be able to order the BlackBerry Z30 soon but a launch date for the handset still remains unknown.
Rumors also suggest that the BlackBerry Z30 is undergoing carrier testing, so customers should expect the handset sooner rather than later.
BlackBerry has not yet confirmed its plans to launch the Z30 but it may be the last handset it will launch before the company changes hands.
It is anybody's guess if the company will launch the BlackBerry Z30 at the Sept. 18 event.
