Apple has released an update regarding its operating system and its updates. Apple users can now update iPads to iPadOS16, as well as macOS Ventura. The tech company delayed its launch due to the Stage Manager multitasking feature in need of more polishing. With this, Apple is skipping a public release of the iPadOS16, and will go straight to the 16.1 version.
This goes in line with their release for the newest iPad Pro and entry-level iPad, which is due to ship this week, as mentioned in Engadget.
iPadOS 16
The new OS includes the same updates as iOS 16, such as changes to Mail, Safari, Messages, and other apps. However, the most notable update is the Stage Manager multitasking feature. Other updates to the operating system based on Apple's official website include the following:
Users can now edit, undo send, mark as unread, and more in the Apple Messages App
For the Mail App, users can set a reminder so they can go back to a certain message with Remind Me. They will also receive automatic suggestions so they can follow up on emails that have not been responded to. Users can also schedule emails, and cancel the delivery before it reaches the recipient's inbox.
iCloud now has an iCloud Shared Photo Library, where up to six people can share a separate iCloud library, to contribute to and view photos. Users will receive intelligent suggestions, so they can share photos of the participants in the Shared Photo Library from their personal libraries. All users within the Shared Library can add, edit, delete, or favorite photos and videos. This will then appear in Memories and Featured Photos.
Safari introduces safer browsing by using passkeys. It is a security feature that can't be phished or leaked, due to its use of biometric verifications like Touch ID or Face ID. It is securely synced with end-to-end encryption using the iCloud Keychain, which makes it available for various Apple devices.
Later this year, Freeform will be released for the iPadOS 16. Freeform is a productivity app where you can write and sketch using the Apple Pencil, and attach files like images, videos, audio, PDFs, documents, and URLs.
macOS Ventura
macOS Ventura introduces the Continuity Camera, wherein users can use their iPhones as webcams. Mac can automatically recognize an iPhone nearby, and Desk View uses its Ultra Wide camera feature to get a better view of the user and their desk. This includes features like Center Stage, Portrait mode, and Studio Light, which dims the background and highlights the user's face.
Users can now transfer a FaceTime call to other Apple devices using Handoff. This allows users to transition from their Mac to their iPhone or iPad when they're on the go, as mentioned on their website.
Users can organize their workspace using Stage Manager. Their main task can be displayed prominently in the center of the screen, while other windows are displayed on the left for quick access and updates.
The passkey feature in Safari for the iPadOS 16 is also available on the macOS Ventura, as well as the improvements in Messages, Mail, and iCloud Shared Photo Library.
