Genshin Impact is one of the most popular mobile online action RPGs in recent gaming history, and for good reasons - it was released during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and its appeal caught the attention of gamers and anime fans alike.
However, players of the 2020 game may have noticed something missing from the game even before it was released. The game is available for iOS and Android devices (as was expected) and the PlayStation 4.
No word on the game being playable on Xbox One, even as the game's release date drew near.
When the game was released, it took only a few months before it became available on the PlayStation 5.
Still no word on the game coming to Xbox.
The gaming world collectively wondered why the game was not playable on Xbox's consoles, and it is only recently that the reason came to the light.
Microsoft - HoYoverse Negotiation Details
A Gamespot report that cited a Reuters article mentioned that Reuters' sources said that Microsoft and HoYoverse, known as MiHoYo in 2020, were in talks to bring Genshin Impact to Xbox consoles even before the game was released.
However, negotiations between the two companies eventually broke down, leading to Microsoft not making Genshin Impact playable on its gaming consoles.
Unfortunately, Microsoft would allegedly later regret their decision of not bringing the game to their gaming platform. According to Reuters' sources, the company is now looking to "stock up" on Chinese video game content to emulate Sony's success with Genshin Impact.
Microsoft has a good reason to emulate Sony's efforts in inviting Chinese developers to their game platform. According to Sensor Tower, HoYoverse gained $3.7 billion since its release of Genshin Impact on the mobile platform alone. Although data from its PlayStation version has not been made public yet, it is safe to assume that Sony earned a substantial amount from the game's players on its platform.
Genshin Impact players playing on all platforms may know they can only purchase the game's Gnostic Hymn (its Battle Pass) on their original platform. As such, PlayStation gamers playing Genshin Impact need to fill up their PSN wallets to buy the game's Gnostic Hymn.
Will Genshin Impact Be Playable On Xbox Consoles Soon?
Unfortunately, it is hard to tell if Microsoft will extend an offer to HoYoverse on making Genshin Impact available on its Xbox gaming platform in the foreseeable future, despite its efforts to "stock up" on Chinese video game content.
However, things are looking different on the Nintendo Switch's side. HoYoverse confirmed in the past that the game would come to the Nintendo Switch, despite the extended and uncertain wait time.
