Porsche Brings to New Level Its Rivalry With Tesla Through Tri-Motor Tycan Flagship

Porsche will bring to a new level its rivalry with Tesla by developing its flagship tri-motor Tycan going in with the Tesla Model S Plaid.

The German automaker sees its rivalry with Elon Musk's Tesla entering a new scale after it started at the Nürburgring racetrack three years ago.

Taycan And Model S

In 2019, Porsche had its Tycan electric car rule the Nürburgring racetrack. Musk also used the same racetrack as the testing ground for the prototype of Model S Plaid with some success.

But it took Tesla, after the success of Model S Plaid at the racetrack, to roll out the vehicle two years later.

After the vehicle launch, Electrek reports, Tesla brought the new Model S Plaid to Nürburgring racetrack, where it beat Porsche's Taycan EV by registering an impressive record lap at 7:35.579.

It was at the Nürburgring racetrack the rivalry between the automakers began.

Taycan Beats Model S Plaid And a Controversy

Porsche did not take matters sitting down. The German automaker brought the Taycan again to the racetrack. This time around, Tycan has shown its mettle by beating Model S Plaid's record by the hair - two seconds - considered the fastest record for an EV.

However, a controversy arose after. It was found out that the Tycan was outfitted with a performance-enhancing kit which was borrowed from the 2023 model of the Taycan Turbo sports sedan.

New Tycan With Tri-Motor Design

Porsche wanted to settle the score with Tesla by coming up with a new design.

Auto Express reports that the German automaker has developed a new Tycan with a tri-motor design.

So far, Porsche's Tycan Turbo S, according to Auto Express, is the fastest EV to lap the racetrack. But the automaker has not stopped from there.

A new report has indicated that the German automaker is poised to unlock more power from its electric sports platform.

Latest photographs being leaked to Auto Express are suggesting a lightning-fast Tycan, in its pre-production stage, could outrun Tesla Model S Plaid with a potential power of more than 1,000bhp.

Previously seen on public roads, the soon-to-be rolled-out Taycan is sporting a new look. But there appears to be no end if the leaked images have to be taken seriously. Porsche seems to be bent in coming out with more from its already supercharged Tycan.

The leaked images point to one reality unfolding from the furnace of the German automaker: the possibility of an electric GT model.

While this model requires a firm and track-oriented chassis, there are indications that Porsche is giving it a substantial upgrade.

Power Comes With a Price

There is little doubt left that the new tri-motor will supersede the Turbo S in terms of speed.

Of course, the supercharged tri-motor will command a hefty price. Given its powerful performance, Auto Express has predicted a little increase over the Taycan's £75,500 starting price. The upcoming flagship will cost more in excess of the £142,400 Turbo S.

The German automaker has not yet announced when the tri-motor Taycan will be available in the market.
