Duolingo Math Has Released for iOS - Do You Have to Pay for It?

Duolingo Math arrives at the Apple App Store for iPhone and iPad, helping people learn and improve their math skills with a simple application.

Duolingo is finally launching its app that expands from language literacy to mathematics months after a beta version was released, Tech Crunch writes.

iOS Users Can Now Practice Elementary-Level Math With Duolingo Math

Duolingo has become a primary tool for educators to aid in teaching students in a fun way, but the app is not just for language education anymore.

The company released Duolingo Math on iOS, which bears resemblance to the original language app due to its colorful animations and interactive lessons.

According to Engadget, the two main concepts of the app include an elementary-level math curriculum and a brain-training course for adults with more advanced topics.

"Our mission has always been to provide high-quality accessible education and I don't think that necessarily stops at language learning," lead engineer Sammi Siegel says.

Duolingo Math will also focus on mental math, covering the topics of multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, geometry, and measurements.

Furthermore, Duolingo Math provides brain-training exercises that help users learn practical skills that can be used in real life.

"Whether you're studying fractions in the classroom or calculating the tip at a restaurant, math is a key part of our everyday lives," Duolingo says, according to 9to5 Mac.

While the app was originally designed for children, adults can also take advantage and find the motivation to strengthen their math skills with Duolingo Math.

Duolingo Math Aims To Help Users With Math Anxiety

According to Engadget, Duolingo conducted a survey that found 93% of adults in the United States have been anxious over math, while over half of high schoolers have high math anxiety.

With this, the company has decided to make math more accessible through Duolingo Math as stats on math education have seen a decline over the pandemic, Tech Crunch reports.

Because of this, Siegel and four other colleagues teamed up to build the Duolingo Math app with the goal of helping users, especially children, to get rid of math anxiety.

Moreover, the research shows that the metrics of brain training for adults have taken over the topic of child math anxiety, which is why they are trying to build the app for adults as well.

Siegel says that this application will be free for now and will have a math program that progresses in difficulty as the users go through the questions.

Duolingo Math is available on iPhone, iPad, and some iPod Touch devices for now, but the company plans to expand its availability to Android in the near future.

Duolingo Math now squares competition with other numbers-focused applications like Khan Academy, Brilliant.org, Photomath, Numerade, and Symbolab.

However, Duolingo CEO and co-founder Luis VonAhn says that the majority of the company's investment will remain with the Duolingo app that focuses on language learning and literacy.
