Netflix is teaming up with The Coalition to produce a live-action adaptation of the popular video game franchise Gears of War.
As Gears of War celebrated its 16th anniversary on November 7, the streaming platform marked the occasion with an announcement that it is currently working with The Coalition on multiple adaptations of the game franchise.
Aside from the live-action adaptation of the Xbox game series, the streaming platform is also teasing that they will also release an adult animated show. Moreover, Netflix is also hinting at the possibility of "more stories," as per Engadget.
Gears of War Joins Netflix' Stable of Video Game Adaptations
According to Comicbook, Netflix and The Coalition are working together with both the live-action adaptation and the adult animated show. This seems to be a good indication that they will remain faithful to the source material.
As of writing, the streaming platform and the series developer are not yet releasing details about the projects. Likewise, no cast, plot, or potential release date are revealed yet.
Over the past few years, Netflix has exhibited a lot of interest in video game adaptations. The streaming platform has a growing stable of live-action movies. And now, it was just announced that one of Xbox's franchises will be joining the list.
In February, the streaming platform announced a BioShock live-action movie as well as a Mega Man movie, which was teased in 2021.
While it remains to be seen if these upcoming films will be able to live up to their source material, fans are hopeful that all of these projects will be as successful as the games on which they are based on.

Gears of War as a Successful Game Franchise
The Gears of War series revolves around the Locust, which is an aggressive species that almost destroyed human civilization. Humans were at war with the Locust for the entire franchise, one way or another.
While the original Gears of War trilogy story revolved around veteran soldier Marcus Fenix, the newer games and spinoffs centered on his son JD. New stories also focused on his frequent ally Baird, as well as the rebel-turned-soldier Kait.
The first installment of the game called Gears of War was released on November 7, 2006 for the Xbox 360. The game follows Fenix, a soldier in the Coalition of Ordered Governments.
Fenix is tasked to lead humanity's effort to defeat the Locust. Meanwhile, the two titles that followed, Gears of War 2 and Gears of War 3, highlight the three-way conflict between humanity, the Locust, and their mutated counterparts.
Gears of War is created by Epic Games. It was developed and managed by The Coalition. It was owned and published by Xbox Game Studios.
Gears of War had sold over 22 million units, according to Microsoft. When the company acquired the game franchise from Epic Games in 2014, the game grossed over $1 billion dollars, according to Video Games Chronicle.
Two mainline series entries were released by Xbox since buying the IP, the 2016's Gears of War 4 and the 2019's Gears 5.
All games in the series were developed by The Coalition. In addition, the series developer is also behind the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and the spin-off Gears Tactics.
