The Hardest Wordle Words Have Been Revealed

The word puzzle game Wordle took the world by storm when it launched, reaching an absolute peak on social media among word game fans and starters.

With this, WordleStats has been collecting data to calculate the success and failures of its puzzles to reveal the game's hardest words.

'Parer' Ranks First Among Wordle's Hardest Words To Identify

Researchers conducted an analysis of the data collected by a Twitter API called WordleStats to study players' data since the start of 2022.

According to CNet, the ten most difficult Wordle words to get on the in-site game based on Twitter statistics are as follows:

  • Parer

  • Foyer

  • Catch

  • Watch

  • Mummy

  • Cater

  • Coyly

  • Trite

  • Found

  • Tacit

Loot Press writes that "parer" was the word players had the most difficult time guessing, with 48% of players failing all attempts at the highest failure rate.

This is filled by the word "foyer," which 26% of players did not get, according to the thousands of tweets stating that their streaks have been suddenly broken.

While the rest of the list consisted of relatively easier and more common words, these two topped the statistics as they seem like words that do not actually exist.

With 23% of players failing to guess the word "catch" correctly, it lands third on the list due to a vast variety of words that could have the last four letters.

In connection to this, the word "watch" makes the list at number four, with over 20% of over 200,000 tweets indicating that users failed to get the word.

"Mummy" is fifth on the list despite being a relatively common word because the letter M is repeated three times, causing 18% of players to fail in guessing it.

"Cater" and "coyly" tied for the sixth and seventh spots, both having 15% of players fail in identifying the word correctly, Loot Press says.

"Trite" is at number eight with also 15%, but it ranked lower than "cater" and "coyly" because it has a lower guess success rate at 23% as compared to the latter's 35%.

With eight different words ending in "-ound" and only six attempts allowed, "found" makes it to the most difficult Wordle words list with a 14% failure rate.

"Tacit" is last on the list with 10% of players breaking their streaks the day it was the Wordle Word Of The Day based on Twitter statistics.

Researchers Tell Players To Not Take The Study Too Seriously

It is interesting what the study found, but it is important to remember that this research is purely based on users' postings on Twitter.

It is a possibility that the results are flawed since users could have only been tweeting the words they failed without a standard measure of difficulty.

Wordle is a word puzzle game created by software engineer Josh Wardle, which was eventually taken over by a full-time editor at The New York Times to manage it.
