Software Engineer's Post on LinkedIn Garnered Over 22,000 Reactions

Himanshu brought his sentiment to LinkedIn, and posted on November 10 that he was one of the thousands of Meta employees impacted by the mass layoffs.

He said that he relocated to Canada to join Meta. However, just two days after joining, his journey with the company ended.

He ended his post by saying that his heart goes out to everyone who's facing a difficult situation right now.

In just four days, Himanshu's post on LinkedIn already garnered over 22,000 reactions and 1,000 comments.

According to Business Insider, they were not able to independently verify Himanshu's account since he did not immediately respond to the news site's request for comment.

Himanshu posted that he is currently looking for a job in Canada or India. However, he said that he has "no idea" what's coming next for him.

Previously, he had worked at tech companies including GitHub and Adobe, according to his profile on LinkedIn.

Himanshu's situation is not an isolated case. There are other employees who were suddenly laid off by Meta days after relocating from India.

Vishwajeet Jha, a former software engineer at Amazon, also wrote on LinkedIn on November 11 that he was laid off from the company after three days.

According to Jha, it was "really sad that this happened," given that it took a long time to process a work visa to Canada.

Neelima Agarwal, a software engineer, also relocated from India to Canada in November. She said that she was laid off two days after joining the company.

Agarwal wrote in a Linkedin post on November 9 that she was heartbroken about being laid off after moving to Canada. Her post had garnered over 6,400 reactions and more than 480 comments as of writing, according to Business Insider.

Meta Cuts 13% of its Workforce in a Mass Layoff

On November 9, Meta's CEO Mark Zuckerberg delivered one of the saddest news in the company's history. The company implemented its first mass layoffs, cutting its workforce by about 13 percent or letting go of 11,000 employees, as per iTechPost.

Zuckerberg delivered the news to the employees, which the company eventually shared in its Newsroom.

The layoffs come amid a tough time for Facebook's parent company. The company's share dipped by 20 percent as investors got worried about the company's rising costs and expenses.

The job cut affected every organization in the company, but certain departments were impacted more than others.

Since the company plans to hire fewer people next year, the layoff affected the recruitment team disproportionately.

To cut costs, the company also cut back on discretionary spending aside from implementing mass layoffs. Likewise, Meta is extending its hiring freeze until the first quarter of 2023.

Meta's Canadian office is one of the impacted units. The layoffs come eight months after the company announced its plans to open an engineering center in Toronto. According to a press release, this move would have created 2,500 jobs.

Zuckerberg took accountability for Meta's decisions and he apologized to everyone who are affected by the layoffs.
