One of the expected changes next year for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models is the switch from Lightning port to USB-C.
But that's not the only catch. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, alongside the switch, iPhone 15 Pro models will get a massive upgrade when it comes to their wired transferred speeds, The Verge reports.
Only iPhone 15 Pro Models Will Get the Speed Upgrade
Unfortunately, the analyst believes that the benefit will not be included in the entry-level iPhone 15, as well as the iPhone 15 Plus.
Based on his predictions, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will also switch to USB-C. However, they'll maintain the USB 2.0 speeds they had with Lightning.
Maintaining the USB 2.0 speeds means data transfer will be capped at 480 Mbps. This indicates that Apple maintains its strategy of further drawing the distinction between iPhone Pro and non-Pro models, according to 9to5Mac.
According to Kuo's report, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are expected to feature at least USB-C 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3 data transfer speeds.
With USB-C 3.2, data transfer speeds could be improved to as high as 20 Gbps, while Thunderbolt 3 would potentially boost that even further to 40 Gbps.
This is a big leap for people who actually use the iPhone Pro to shoot a lot of ProRes videos and raw photos.
Kuo's prediction was made in a series of tweets on Wednesday. According to the analyst, the information is from his latest survey with the supply chain sources.
The analyst had already made previous predictions that the upcoming iPhone 15 models will include USB-C.
In fact, he already speculated that the change in port "could improve iPhone's transfer and charging speed," in May, according to 9to5Mac. Now, it appears like he has more information on the matter.

Apple is Doing the Switch from Lightning to USB-C
Last month, Apple confirmed that the company is adopting the USB-C for its iPhones following the European Union (EU) mandate that phone makers should adopt USB-C connectors starting in 2024.
The European Parliament voted in favor of the legislation on the change of port to USB-C in October. With this, Apple has no other choice but to do the switch from Lightning to USB-C port.
According to Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior Vice President of marketing, the company will do the switch in compliance with the EU's ruling.
"Obviously, we'll have to comply. We have no choice but to comply with local laws," Joswiak said.
Adopting the USB-C charger will reduce wastage since consumers no longer need to get a new charger each time they buy a new device, according to EU lawmakers.
There are already previous predictions from analysts that iPhones, which are scheduled to be released in 2023, could possibly have a USB-C charging port. Likewise, it has been predicted that the company could possibly introduce it globally.
Apple's decision to upgrade the transfer speeds of the Pro models only and not the non-Pro models is not surprising anymore.
This year, only the iPhone 14 Pro models got the new A16 Bionic Chip, while the entry-level iPhone together with iPhone 14 Plus still has the A15 Chip. This seems to be part of the company's move to differentiate its higher-tier phones.
