Hundreds of Twitter Employees Resign After Elon Musk Demands ‘Extremely Hardcore’ Work

Resignation of Twitter employees started to roll in hours before a Thursday deadline that Elon Musk had given to workers, as per The New York Times.

The CEO asked the employees to make a decision whether to leave the company or stay in their jobs and become part of what he called "Twitter 2.0."

The social media company appeared to be in disarray as hundreds of the remaining employees resigned today, according to The Verge.

Reports say that the CEO and his advisers conducted meetings with some of the Twitter workers who have critical roles in the company to stop them from leaving.

Hundreds of Twitter Employees Leave the Company

Earlier this week, the new CEO of Twitter told employees that the company will be "extremely hardcore" going forward. With that, employees are expected to render long hours at high intensity.

The multi-company CEO also said that "Only exceptional performance will constitute a passing grade."

On Wednesday, the billionaire sent out a Google form asking the company's remaining employees to respond "Yes" by 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday if they still wanted to be part of the company.

The move is a means to make the company the most competitive it could be. But on the other hand, the action also provided an opportunity for Twitter to further cut costs and purge the company of disaffected workers.

Hundreds of employees made a decision not to stay, and posted their goodbyes in Slack and on Twitter, according to MacRumors. The departing employees will receive three months of severance pay.

The resignation of so many employees in such a short period of time has raised questions about how Twitter will continue operating effectively.

The multi-billionaire decided to bring some engineers and managers from his other companies, such as the electric automaker Tesla.

However, many of these workers are just temporarily joining the social media platform to speed up how the social media service works.

#RIPTwitter Trends on Twitter

Today, the hashtag #RIPTwitter began trending on Twitter. Many users are wondering whether the service would go down.

Memes of a gravestone with the epitaph that Musk has killed the platform were posted by some users. There are also jokes that there was only one employee left. Some users also said they were migrating to other social media services.

The exits of hundreds of employees added to the problems the social media company is facing since Musk completed his $44 billion takeover last month.

Immediately after his takeover, he fired the company's top officials. Afterwards, he laid off half of Twitter's 7,500 full-time workers and fired employees who are critical of him.

According to The Verge, the remaining and departing employees of the company told them that given the scale of the resignations this week, the platform could possibly "start breaking soon."

One staffer of the company said no matter how hardcore the people who remain try to be, it will be extremely difficult for Twitter to recover from its current state.

Since Twitter has no communication department to contact for comment, they did not issue a statement regarding the matter.
