On Thursday, Amazon announced that it ordered multiple live-action shows from Sony Pictures featuring Marvel characters controlled by the studio. First on the list of Amazon and Sony agreement is "Silk: Spider Society," according to Variety.
The show follows the story of Cindy Moon, a Korean American woman bitten by the same spider that bit Peter Parker.
The story will delve into Moon's life as she escapes imprisonment, and searches for her missing family. Eventually, she will learn to master her abilities and become the superhero, Silk.
Angela Kang, Showrunner of 'The Walking Dead,' Develops 'Silk: Spider Society'
"Silk: Spider Society" was developed by Angela Kang. She is best known for her work on "The Walking Dead." In 2021, she became a writer of the series, while in 2013, she became the co-executive producer.
In 2018, she was promoted to executive producer and showrunner. The series finale of "The Walking Dead" is airing on November 20. Kang is co-creating a spinoff focused on Norman Reedus' character, Daryl Dixon.
Kang is joined by Academy-award winning "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
Kang, Lord and Miller will executive produce "Silk: Spider Society" along with former Sony boss Amy Pascal.
Sony Pictures Television will be the studio that will produce the series. Lord and Miller are currently under an overall deal with the studio.
Kang signed a new multi-year overall television deal with Amazon. She said she is "beyond thrilled" that she's joining the Amazon studios family.
She added that she's excited to face the first challenge in her new journey - bringing the Korean American superhero Silk to screen.
According to Lord and Miller, they respect and admire Kang's perspective and creativity. They believe she is a pro in the industry, and they feel lucky to be able to work with her in bringing Cindy Moon's story to the world.

'Silk: Spider Society' Will Premiere Globally on Amazon Prime Video
As of writing, it is unknown yet when the series will premiere. According to CNET, it will debut domestically on MGM+. Globally, it will premiere on Amazon Prime Video.
The story of Silk is based on the characters created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos for Marvel Comics.
As of writing, no other characters or show concepts have been specified about "Silk: Spider Society." But according to reports, the series is just the first product of the deal between Amazon and Sony.
According to Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, with Kang's creative vision, the studio is pleased to bring the movie to MGM+ and Prime Video customers.
Meanwhile, according to Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios, they are excited to bring the adventures of Cindy Moon to the viewers. She is thankful to the creative team of Lord, Miller, Kang and Pascal as well as their partners at Marvel and Amazon.
Back in September 2020, there have been reports that the Sony-controlled Marvel characters are in the works.
Around that time, it was reported that Lauren Moon was writing "Silk." Meanwhile in 2021, there were reports that Tom Spezialy had joined the series as showrunner as part of his own Amazon overall deal.
