Twitter’s Head of France Resigns Ahead of Additional Twitter Layoffs

Elon Musk's Twitter layoffs are also affecting its other offices worldwide.

Damien Viel, Twitter's head of France, has recently announced his resignation from his position on Twitter ahead of what could be another round of layoffs for the company on Nov. 21.

You may remember that hundreds of Twitter employees resigned after Musk gave them an ultimatum to either work "hardcore" for long hours or take a three-month severance package.

Twitter France Head Resignation Details

Twitter's head of France, Damien Viel, used his Twitter account to announce he is stepping down and quitting his post, saying that it's over and his pride, honor, and mission have been accomplished.

He also thanked Twitter for giving him the chance to experience such an adventure, encounter, and work with a team during the seven years he worked under it.

It is unclear if Viel voluntarily resigned from his position or if he was laid off as part of Musk's restructuring of the company. Viel also declined to comment on why he was fired and the circumstances that led to it, per a Bloomberg report.

He also refused to reveal how many Twitter employees are left in Paris, which only had fewer than 50 employees as it only focused on advertiser relationships before Musk took over in October.

Viel's resignation comes at a time before Twitter issues another round of layoffs for its employees following their mass exodus on Nov. 18.

According to Engadget, which cited a separate Bloomberg report, Musk reportedly asked Robin Wheeler, Twitter's head of ad sales, and Maggie Suniewick, Twitter's partnerships chief, to fire more employees on Nov. 19.

However, both Twitter heads pushed back against Musk, resulting in their termination.

Unfortunately, this piece of news can't be confirmed, as Twitter no longer has a communications team as a result of Musk's layoffs. However, should Twitter go through with the new round of layoffs, it will severely affect the company's remaining employees, with most of its contract staff gone and at least 1,200 employees resigning after Musk's ultimatum.

You may remember that one former Twitter employee said that there is no longer "a skeleton crew manning the system," and that the website will continue to run as it is until it runs into something and eventually stops.

Twitter's Current Situation

Twitter's situation is dire, to say the least, with the microblogging app already showing signs of disrepair. Twitter's Copyright system has reportedly broken down to the point that users can upload full-length movies and TV Series on the platform.

The Verge reported that someone posted the whole "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" on Twitter across nearly 50 tweets and was up for a day and a half before Twitter suspended the poster's account.

Additionally, DownDetector collected a number of reports regarding Twitter's issues. As of press time, 63% of the reports said there is a problem with Twitter's app, while 25% said the platform's website is having issues. Last but not least, 13% of the reports said that users couldn't log into their accounts.
