After the continuous reduction of Twitter staff, reports say that Elon Musk is finally done with firing employees.
In just three weeks, almost 75% of his staff is gone by resignation or termination. With around 2,700 workers left out of 7,500, the tech billionaire is now recruiting, according to The Verge.
Things are Looking Up
The new Twitter owner held a meeting with his staff on Monday, and he finally said that Twitter will no longer be firing staff. On the contrary, he's going to start hiring employees for engineering and sales, although he did not specify yet what kind of roles those are. Employees were even encouraged to refer individuals who have the skill to work for Musk.
Twitter recruiters are already hunting for engineers to join the workforce. It is a bit concerning that they are still going for "Twitter 2.0," which is what caused some of the employees to leave of their own accord, due to extreme work policies. However, it's good that the Tesla CEO is already starting to rebuild the company, especially with rumors circulating that Twitter is on life support.
Twitter Needs People
The rumors are not entirely wrong. Some functions from the app are not as they were, seeing as the people that monitored and developed them have left the company. Without people keeping watch of the content being posted, Twitter can quickly turn into a chaotic environment, with rampant abuse of "free speech."
Someone even managed to post a whole movie in a 50-tweet thread, and it took almost a whole day before it was detected and taken down. "Hackers" from 1995 and "Avatar" from 2009 were among the films that were posted. This shows that the app's copy strike system is not as vigilant as it was, as mentioned in Social Media Today.
There were also problems with the app's Ads manager, specifically with modifying campaigns and ad placement and performance. Advertisers expressed that they had problems with logging in. This issue doesn't help with the fact that several big company names paused their Twitter ads, like Pfizer and Audi.
Staff who have left the company predicted that things would go wrong, even with just the little glitches which might lead to a crash in the long run. As these glitches pile up, it might cause the app service to eventually break down.
With the many bugs in the system as of late, some users report that they cannot see replies on a tweet. There were also instances when users see a certain tweet more than once, at the top of their feeds. Reports also state that the Twitter wall is taking its time to load content
It does not stop there as well. Some DMs do not show the accurate time for when the message was received or sent. Replies show up above the main post instead of below, and videos have trouble loading. Hopefully, the attempt at hiring new staff will fix all these problems, so Twitter will return to its former glory.
