Samsung is stepping up its presence and making it known in Canada, as it is set to launch four new devices in the country in October.
The company wants to maintain its title as the biggest smartphone vendor in the world. To help ensure this happens, Samsung is launching four new devices in Canada alone in October. The company will launch the Galaxy Note 3 phablet, Galaxy Gear smartwatch, Galaxy S4 Mini, and Galaxy S3 Mini. Let's take a look at these devices Samsung plans on launching for its fall 2013 lineup in Canada.
The company will launch its latest flagship phablet, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. It features a 5.7-inch 1080p Full HD Super AMOLED display with a pixel density of 386 pixels per inch (ppi) and runs Android 4.3 with Samsung's TouchWiz UI. It is powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit (GPU) and 3GB of RAM.
It's also packing a high-end 13-megapixel illuminated rear camera with "smart stabilization" and a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter, with both cameras able to capture 1080p HD video. It comes with 32GB or 64GB of internal storage and includes a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 64GB microSD cards. Its wireless connectivity options include a 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and NFC. You'll also find an IR blaster to turn the Note 3 into a universal remote control and it also features a dedicated program guide. Samsung has included a large 3,200 mAh removable battery and enhanced S Pen functionality.
Samsung will also bring its first smartwatch, the Galaxy Gear, to Canada on Oct. 4. It features a 1.63-inch 320 x 320 Super AMOLED display and runs a modified version of Android 4.3. It uses a single-core 800MHz Exynos processor with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. It has a 1.9-megapixel camera with autofocus built into its strap and is capable of recording full HD video. It includes NFC, Bluetooth 4.3 LE, gyroscope, pedometer, and accelerometer. It's packing a 315 mAh battery that Samsung says will be provide enough power to last a full day of "regular use." The Galaxy Gear uses S Voice to allow users to issue voice commands that can create new alarms, dictate new messages, initiate phone calls, and more.
Samsung will launch the Galaxy S4 Mini as well. The smartphone looks nearly identical to the Galaxy S4 but comes in a smaller package. The Galaxy S4 mini features a 4.3-inch 540 x 960 Super AMOLED display and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Samsung has included a 1.7GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor to power the handset, along with 8GB of internal storage, a microSD expansion slot that will allow users to add up to 64GB microSD cards to increase its storage, and 1.5GB of RAM to keep things flowing smoothly.
The S4 Mini packs an 8-megapixel rear camera and also includes a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera. The smartphone features a 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC wireless capabilities. A removable 1,900 mAh battery will keep the Galaxy S4 Mini up and running.
The company also plans on launching the mini-version of its 2012 flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S3 Mini. The handset features a 4-inch Super AMOLED capacitive multi-touch display with an 800×480 resolution, a pixel density of 217 pixels per inch (ppi), and runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with Samsung TouchWiz Nature UX. It is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and 1GB of RAM to provide a snappy experience. It includes 8GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot that supports up to 64GB microSD cards.
The smartphone is also packing a 5-megapixel rear camera with auto-focus, LED flash, 4x zoom, and able to record 720p video @ 30fps, as well as a VGA front facing camera for video chat. Its wireless connectivity options include a 4G LTE radio, 4G HSPA+, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and NFC. The smartphone comes with a removable 2,000 mAh battery.
All four devices will make up Samsung's smartphone and smartwatch lineup for the fall and will be available from select carriers beginning Oct. 4.
