The Gran Turismo game franchise has been an exclusive for PlayStation for two and a half decades. However, recent reports say that Kazunori Yamauchi, the creator of the named game, might have plans for a PC port. Yamauchi expressed that Polyphony Digital, the developer of the racing game, has their development team looking into making it PC compatible.
Gran Turismo's Expansion to Other Platforms
Yamauchi expressed that the game is finely tuned. That quality might cause problems for the game to run in 4k consistently at 60 frames per second. Regardless, he said that they were looking into it and considering the possibility. The latest release for the game franchise was in March for Gran Turismo 7, which is available for PS4 and PS5.
For the past years that the game has been developed, it has never considered the idea of being available for other platforms. This is what makes the PC port possibility of the game a big deal. According to The Verge, other titles have already made the jump to PC gaming, such as Horizon Zero Dawn, Days Gone, God of War, and Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves.
Adding to the Roster of PC Games
There are more PlayStation exclusives that are expected to grace PC monitors. Jim Ryan, the president of Sony Interactive, said that the company is expecting that around half of the games to be released in 2025, would be on PC or mobile. In 2021, Nixxes Software, a technical developer group that worked on PC ports and game optimization for big titles, has been acquired by PlayStation.
Back in early October, PlayStation Studios announced Sony's plans to release PC port games. The bad news is, it will be a year after a console game release before it is ported to PC. Hermen Hulst, the head of PlayStation Studios, said that this will be the case for single-player games. Although, live-service games may actually release for both PCs and PlayStation at the same time.
Sony releasing PC games has been helpful with its film productions, according to Hulst, which might be what's urging them to expand to PC and mobile gaming as well. However, exclusives will help the sales of Sony's PlayStations, as mentioned in Tech Spot. Regardless, it will still be profitable both ways. Expanding to PC ports will attract more gamers, which means more sales.
Games to Try Out
We have already established that Sony is looking to bring exclusives to PC ports, and some are already available.
