Spanish Theme Park PortAventura World To Launch 'Uncharted'-Inspired Rollercoaster

Spain's largest theme park will soon be welcoming a ride based on the box office hit film "Uncharted," which is from a PlayStation video game franchise of the same title.

PortAventura World has closed a licensing agreement with Sony Picture to bring this project to fruition come mid-2023, Variety writes.

The Ride Will Feature An Immersive Pre-Show For Visitors

The "Uncharted" rollercoaster ride, which will be located at the resort's Far West Zone, is expected to deliver a "dangerous search" experience for one of the greatest treasures, PortAventura claims.

According to Engadget, the ride has a budget allocation of over €25 million or around $25.7 million to turn the vision into reality.

The rollercoaster will be designed by the company Intamin Amusement Rides and Sally Corporation, which specializes in the development of dark rides and animatronics technology.

The ride will be nearly 700 meters long with a height of 12 meters, and it will be stationed in a 4,800 square meters space with a 16-meter high enclosure.

Additionally, the ride is rumored to feature animations or video projections, special effects, and a soundbite of Nathan Drake saying "no" repeatedly.

Aside from this, The Gamer writes that this is the first time something essentially based on PlayStation Game is going to be a theme park attraction.

"Uncharted" also seems to be the title best fit to be a theme park ride since it has a number of high-octane action scenes that ride developers can turn into a thrilling experience.

However, it is important to note that there has already been a number of video game attractions added to theme parks all over the world based on the creations of other developers.

One of these is Super Nintendo Mario Japan, a theme park based on the popular Nintendo title, which has its sister theme parks opening in California, Singapore, and Orlando.

According to Variety, PortAventura records over 90 million visitors over the course of its 26-year history, operating two hotels with almost 2,500 rooms between them.

Since the resort's area can cater to thousands of people, the theme park hopes that the success of "Uncharted" as a film and as a video game translates to the rollercoaster project.
