Anyone who's up to date with Elon Musk's tweets will know that he's had beef with Apple's CEO, Tim Cook. However, reports say that the two CEOs have already settled the misunderstanding. The issue was rooted in the rumor that Apple plans to withhold Twitter from the App Store, but CEO Tim Cook officially denied this.
Cook and Musk Made Up, Sort Of
Saying that Apple and Twitter made up is not really 100% true since it was only Elon Musk who started speaking out on his $44 billion platform. All that's behind them now since Musk and Cook already had a meeting at Apple's headquarters, wherein Tim Cook clarified that Apple never considered removing Twitter from the App Store.
Musk said that they resolved the misunderstanding, among other things. He added this statement to the main tweet, wherein he took a video of the environment in the Apple HQ, thanking Tim Cook for showing him around. The Tesla CEO never disclosed the origin of the rumor, and it's not likely that he will since the issue is already fixed.
What About the Previous Tweets?
Before the tech billionaire verified the rumor, he had already taken to Twitter to make his feelings known. This is not a surprise for his followers since Musk does stay true to his "free speech" advocacy. As of writing, the tweets are still up, among other colorful tweets from the Twitter owner.
Back on November 29th, Musk tweeted that Apple mostly stopped advertising on Twitter, and that's not even the controversial part. The Tesla CEO asked if Apple hated free speech in America and went on to mention Tim Cook in a subtweet, asking him what was going on.
He then retweeted a post from @LBRYcom, saying that Apple demanded that they filter some search terms. If they did not do so, they will not be allowed in the App Store. LBRY then expressed that Apple has been opposed to free speech for some time. Musk quoted the tweet, asking who else Apple censored.
All on the same day, he also retweeted a 1984 parody video made by Fortnite. The parody called out Apple's monopoly, and his retweet came with a quote that says "accurate." In just a few minutes, he followed it with a tweet saying that Apple threatened to withhold Twitter from the App Store, without telling Musk why.
He continued on this path and retweeted @WatcherGuru, revealing that Apple puts a secret 30% tax on everything that's bought on the App Store. That was followed by a retweet of a post saying that Apple should support free speech, and another that says Apple should be more transparent about its processes.
Reports say that the 30% secret tax mentioned before was the reason that Musk postponed the launch of Twitter Blue subscriptions, according to Engadget. With this, they will be able to avoid fees, seeing as Apple allegedly slices off a chunk from in-app purchases.
