5 Tips Callisto Protocol Players Should Know While Playing the Game

Survival games can be tough even in the most ideal of circumstances, and The Callisto Protocol is no different from any of them in this regard.

Games Radar mentioned that the game's default difficulty is "drainingly brutal." This difficulty, which could result in players dying a lot in-game, may be due to a number of factors: the movement speed of Jacob, the playable character, enemy mobs, and the amount of damage he receives being higher than the damage he inflicts.

To help you get through and escape Black Iron Prison, here are five tips you should keep in mind while playing The Callisto Protocol:

Select Your Targets Wisely

Much like most survival horror games, players must conserve ammo and resources for the more difficult parts of The Callisto Protocol. With the game being hard enough as it is, even on its default difficulty, and stingy with supplies from the start, every shot must count, per Game8.

To help you conserve ammo, try going for dismemberments to make enemies' tentacles appear, then focus fire on them for massive damage.

Additionally, going for the legs instead of the head will help you reduce enemies' mobility, allowing you to control the situation better than aiming for a constantly moving target like the head.

Try To Master Melee Combat

Going up against the monstrosities roaming around Black Iron Prison in hand-to-hand combat may sound crazy, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

Unlike the many firearms the game offers, Jacob's baton won't run out of ammunition, though you might need some health gels to heal up. Interestingly, melee attacks deal more damage to enemies than forearms, allowing you to save precious firearm ammunition for boss fights.

Explore Alternate Routes & Stomp On Enemy Corpses For Resources

With melee attacks being a viable option, exploring alternate routes for every obtainable resource like ammunition, batteries, and health gels is a great idea to stock up for every eventuality, per Polygon.

Additionally, stomping enemy corpses could net you a decent amount of resources to recoup your losses after slogging through swarms of enemies. It may not be much, but it's better than the alternative, especially in boss fights.

Unfortunately, Jacob won't have a large enough inventory space for you to get every resource you can find in-game. As such, try to find a balance between picking up what you need and what you want.

Make The Environment Fight For You

Since The Callisto Protocol can be unforgiving if you waste too much ammo, you will need to use every advantage you can get your hands on to survive and beat the game. Fortunately, aside from Jacob's firearms, baton, and abilities, you can also choose to lure and defeat enemies with environmental hazards and obstacles to make your encounters with them easier.

These hazards and obstacles include grinders and giant metal fans that can either damage enemies heavily or outright kill them if their health is low enough.

Keep A Lookout For Your GRP's Battery Life

Jacob has a nifty gadget called a gravity restraint projector (GRP) that helps Jacob hurl enemies into environmental hazards and obstacles to take advantage of them. However, they are battery-operated and will consume battery life after every use.

Although the game says that the GRP will automatically replace depleted batteries with fresher ones from Jacob's inventory, Pro Game Guides reports that this isn't the case in their playthrough. As such, try to keep the GRP's charge in mind and remember to manually replace it when you get to a safe place to do so.

You'll know when you need to change the GRP's battery when the blue light above Jacob's health bar goes out.
