Apple is rolling out an update that targets the AirTag item tracker firmware ahead of the release of iOS 16.2, expected to be available to the public in the next few days.
According to Mac Rumors, the update will give the firmware an update build number of 2A36, up from the previous 2A24e firmware that Apple released in November.
Apple Is Yet To Release Additional Update Notes But Here Are Some Details So Far
Apple users have been getting rumors regarding the iOS 16.2 update since a few weeks back, and it has just been announced that the tech giant is rolling out updates for the AirTag item tracker.
The AirTag is a small tracking device that is used to track and find lost items, but Apple does not update it as often as it does other devices.
Apple did not detail what upgrades were made available with the latest firmware update, just like previously when users expected unspecified fixes and performance improvements for unknown issues.
It is important to note that should users want their AirTag devices to have the latest features, they should connect them to an iPhone.
To make sure that the device gets the update, users should put the AirTag in the range of their iPhone and wait for the firmware to rollout.
9to5 Mac writes that to check the availability of the firmware version on the AirTag, users should follow the steps written below:
Open the Find My application on their iPhone
Choose the Items tab at the bottom of the navigation bar
Choose AirTag from the list of items
Tap on the name of their AirTag
This will then reveal the serial number and the firmware version of the AirTag users have, but it will not automatically update the device.
