Last month, Google Contacts on Android received the Material You makeover. Now, Google is adding another new feature to the app, specifically a new tab.
In addition to the Contacts and Fix & Manage tabs that you can find in the new Material You bottom bar on the Google Contacts app, you will now see the new "Highlights" tab.
But what does this new tab do? How can Android phone users use it?
Where Can You Locate the New Highlight Tab?
According to the latest report of 9to5Google, the tech giant issued a new update to the Google Contact app. With this, Google is rolling out the Highlights tab.
As per Tech Times, the tech giant is slowly introducing changes to the built-in Contacts app for Android users. If you're using Android, you would notice one of the notable updates in the app, the fresh look of its icon.
Google has actually rolled out a new Contacts icon and if you happen to frequently check out your contacts, you would have noticed it.
Based on the Google Play listing of the Contacts app, the new look "better reflects today's modern experience." Apparently, the tech giant refers to the new tab that the Contacts app gained.
You would find the Highlights tab sandwiched between the Contacts tab and the Fix & manage option in the Material You bottom bar.
You would find the tabs sitting just below the built-in Android app. This allows users to easily navigate a list of their contacts or check out the Fix & manage option.
In addition to Contacts and Fix & Manage in the Material You bottom bar, you can now also access the new Highlights section.
With the additional new tab, the updated Google Contacts now has a total of three tabs below. Therefore, the new version of Google Contacts has a lot more going on than its previous design.

What Does the New Highlights Tab Offer?
To give you a clear picture of the updated design and the features of the new Highlights tab, we have outlined what you can see on the Google Contacts interface.
You would find the Favorites grid just below the search bar. You might find the search option handy if you are looking for a contact.
You can easily add a new contact to your Favorites using the Add button that you can find in the top-right corner.
You would locate the Recent section just underneath the Favorites grid, where you get a two-tabbed list. There is the View Recently section, which shows you the contacts with whom you have most recently interacted.
The other tabbed list is the Added Recently section which gives you access to the recently added contacts.
