Apple is planning to roll out another update for iOS 7. The company has acknowledged that there is an iMessage bug that will be fixed with a software update next week.
When Apple released iOS 7 to the public millions of iOS 6 users updated their devices to get the redesigned mobile operating system. The update features the first major change to the OS since it was released in 2007. The new software brings many enhancements to iOS, including Control Center, which allows users to swipe up on their iOS device to quickly access settings like brightness, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, volume control, and more from anywhere in the OS.
Multitasking has also been improved. A double tap of the home screen brings up a live card-like view of all of the applications currently running. No need to hold them down like previous versions of iOS, simply flick them off of the screen to close them. iOS 7's AirDrop feature is similar to Android Beam, it allows iOS users to drop images, contacts and more to other iOS users in their immediate area.
With a new OS come great new features, but also some bugs. iOS 7 users have been reporting that they have been having issues with iMessage - some are unable to send texts/messages, while some are not receiving messages entirely. Apple has acknowledged the issue and is working on a fix.
"We are aware of an issue that affects a fraction of a percent of our iMessage users, and we will have a fix available in an upcoming software update. In the meantime, we encourage any users having problems to reference our troubleshooting documents or contact AppleCare to help resolve their issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes impacted users."
Some users are reporting a temporary fix for the issue:
- Disable iMessage in Settings > Messages,
- Reset the iPhone's Network Settings under Settings > General > Reset
- Re-enable iMessage.
Apple is reportedly testing iOS 7.0.3 and is expected to release the update sometime next week, which will address and fix the iMessage bug (preferably) once and for all.
