Samsung announced on Friday that the company appointed former Mercedes-Benz designer Hubert H. Lee as the new head of its Mobile eXperience (MX) Design Team, as per Engadget.
MX Design Team is behind the design of some of the company's most visible products, including its flagship Galaxy S series smartphones, as well as the Z series and the Galaxy Watch.
Hubert Lee Will Lead the Team Behind Galaxy Products
Before joining the electronics giant, Lee served as the chief design officer of Mercedes-Benz China for more than 20 years, The Korea Times reported.
The said position saw him lead the automaker's design teams in China and the US.
At Mercedes-Benz, he is behind many projects of the company. He also received multiple awards for his outstanding leadership of the company's design teams both in China and the US.
In his new position at Samsung, Lee will lead the team that is responsible for creating Galaxy products.
In a press release posted on the Samsung Newsroom, Lee said that Samsung is known for creating some of the world's most beautiful products with designs that have transformed the mobile industry.
With this, he said that he is excited to join a company that is "on the bleeding edge of mobile innovation."
Likewise, he added that is looking forward to leading the team responsible for creating new mobile experiences through the art of design.
According to Samsung, Lee's "unique and visionary perspective will help shape the look and feel of Galaxy, building on the distinct design ethos that users know and love."
From 1993 to 1995, he studied industrial and product design at the Rhode Island School of Design.
In 2002, he obtained his bachelor's degree in applied science and transportation design at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.
Lee is popularly known as the first Asian designer at Mercedes-Benz, according to The Korea Times.

Users Might See Changes in Galaxy Products' Design With Hubert Lee's Hiring
The future design development of the Galaxy products is now under Lee's control. However, we may not see his influence in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S23 since everything might have been finalized by now.
Perhaps, we have to wait for the Galaxy S24 series to find out how he could be a game-changer for Samsung.
The flagship products of Samsung haven't been all that exciting for quite some time, according to XDA. But despite this, they have been consistent, offering a polished and refined experience to users.
For instance, Samsung was one of the first to introduce foldable smartphones. However, despite providing great experiences with the current Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, many users believe that the company is not pushing for more innovation in its products.
With Lee's hiring, the upcoming year seems to be promising for the company. Samsung fans are already looking forward to seeing how the company will innovate its smartphones in the future.
Moreover, the company's latest hiring could be an indicator that Samsung is ready to change gears, and move out of its comfort zone while maintaining its dominance in the mobile market.
