Ysbryd Games Announces That World of Horror Will Exit Early Access in Summer 2023

This coming summer, the acclaimed indie game World of Horror will finally exit three years of Early Access, developer Panstasz and publisher Ysbryd Games announced.

This means that soon, the game will finally receive its long-awaited official launch on PlayStation, PC, and Nintendo Switch platforms, according to Destructoid. Currently, the game is available in early access on the Steam platform.

World of Horror had a long development cycle, first released in 2020. But despite this, over time, devotees have been thrilled at each new update.

World of Horror is a Unique Game

World of Horror is a role-playing video game known for its 1-bit pixel art style. This style was inspired by the works of H. P. Lovecraft and Junji Ito.

Created by Polish developer Paweł Koźmiński (a.k.a. Panstasz) and published by Ysbryd Games, the game was released into early access on February 20, 2020, through Steam, GOG.com, and Microsoft Store.

Panstasz developed the game part-time in between his work as a dentist. The in-game's artwork was designed using MS Paint.

Meanwhile, additional writing was provided by author Cassandra Khaw. The music used in the game was composed by ArcOfDream and Qwesta.

Since 2020, there was an interest to launch the game on consoles. Finally, during a Nintendo Indie World Showcase, a release date was revealed.

According to PC Gamer, if you are not familiar with the World of Horror at this time, expect that in the years to come it's going to be one of those games you hear about from people.

The game is so unique as it's a fusion of horror combined with a stylized aesthetic and "semi-roguelike" survival horror RPG gameplay.

The game's most recent update was in late October of 2022 wherein the developer added new items, mysteries, and character origins.

World of Horror is a Treat for Players

World of Horror is set in the town of Shiokawa, Japan. It follows the story of a young investigator as he follows a series of obscure and bizarre clues. In the process, he uncovers evidence of a coming apocalypse, signaled by a platoon of grotesque creatures.

In an effort to seek out the truth about the upcoming apocalypse, the player has to engage in turn-based combat with the otherworldly creatures. Likewise, the player must engage in combat to discover a way to prevent Armageddon from happening.

Many of the creatures in the World of Horror are based on creatures from Japanese horror manga or urban legends.

In addition, the game also incorporates adventure game and roguelike elements in its exploration and puzzle-solving.

According to Jordan Devore of Destructoid, the game is a rare treat for gamers. Likewise, he praised its modular format.

Devore also commended its "eerie chiptune soundtrack and rising tension during a long, hard-fought run." But he criticized the game's combat. According to him, it's becoming tedious over long sessions.

Meanwhile, another critic said that the game's horror was engaging, but the navigating interface was frustrating.

Despite the criticism, World of Horror got a generally favorable review from Metacritic.
