Samsung just created a new smart home hub.

During the CES 2023 press conference on Wednesday, Samsung announced its SmartThings Station, the latest addition to its SmartThings smart home experience, as per ZDNet.

Samsung SmartThings Station Also Works as a Charger

According to The Verge, the SmartThings Station supports Matter and Thread to connect devices such as TVs, speakers, thermostats, lighting, and plugs to SmartThings.

In addition, the Station also works with the new smart home standard Matter to onboard devices.

The Station is even more useful because it can charge your gadgets. It doubles as a 15W fast wireless charging pad for Galaxy smartphones and earbuds.

According to reports, the Station is also capable of charging other phones, but not as fast as it can charge Galaxy smartphones.

The Station will be launched first in Korea. It will arrive in the US in early February. The Verge reported that the Station will cost $59.99. But if you buy it with a USB-C adaptor, it will cost $79.99.

You can get it in black or white. Although it appears like it's designed around Samsung's existing wireless charging pad, it is made up of entirely new hardware and software.

The Station was first shown at CES and based on what we have seen, it's a nice, slimline, and compact device powered by USB-C.

You would find a small tactile button that triggers SmartThings scenes. The device is an easy and inexpensive way to charge your phone while simultaneously turning on your lights. You can easily do this by pressing the button.

It would be very convenient to have one of these in each main room of your home.

What are the Other Functions of the SmartThings Station?

The Station is also useful in locating your gadgets because it works with the SmartThings Find service. If you configured it with your Galaxy smartphone, the pad will be set to ring your phone when you double-press the button of the device.

Since it acts as an always-at-home Find device scanner, you can easily determine where your smartphones, tablets, watches, and earbuds are.

There's also a new function that continually scans for Galaxy SmartTags or SmartTag Plus. It will send a notification once a tag or device leaves or returns home.

The Station is also the first product to be released with Matter built in. It will act as a Matter controller to onboard Matter smart home devices to your home network using any Matter-compatible app. This includes Apple Home or Google Home.

In addition, it also functions as a Thread Border router. Moreover, it has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth radios built in.

According to Jaeyeon Jung, head of Samsung SmartThings, the SmartThings iOS app will be Matter compatible this month. This will provide another option for iPhone owners to onboard Matter devices.
