HTC One Max to launch on Oct. 15?

HTC is gearing up to launch its much-rumored phablet, the HTC One Max, on Oct. 15 if a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report is to be believed.

According to the WSJ report (from the publication's Taipei office), HTC looks to join the ranks of the latest iPhone 5S from Apple and intends to incorporate a fingerprint sensor in it's first-ever phablet. The WSJ report cites two people "familiar with the matter" as its source of information.

"HTC Corp. is set to unveil the HTC One Max, which will have a fingerprint sensor among other features, on Oct. 15, two people familiar with the matter said.," per the WSJ report.

The new report also reaffirms previous rumors that the HTC One Max will have an UltraPixel camera and BlinkFeed just like the flagship HTC One.

However, while WSJ is quite reliable, a new report from Engagdget reveals that HTC Taiwan has sent out invites for a press event in Taipei that is slated for Oct. 18.

"According to an invitation we just received from HTC Taiwan, the company will be hosting a product launch event in Kaohsiung at local time 6pm on October 18th (which is Friday next week)," reports Engadget.

"One finger opens up a big view. You are invited to immerse in the sound with us," reads the invitation from HTC, hinting that the new smartphone will feature a fingerprint sensor, as well as BoomSound speakers.

HTC, however, seems to have several events slated for different locations, as Engadget has also received an invite for an Oct.16 event in Hong Kong.

A strong possibility exists that HTC is looking to introduce the HTC One Max next week, and the Oct. 15 date revealed by WSJ could be for a U.S. announcement.

Rumors pertaining to the HTC One Max phablet have been creating quite a buzz as of late. Previously, reports have hinted at an Oct. 17, as well as an Oct.15 launch date for the phablet.

The HTC One Max is conjectured to sport a 5.9-inch display with a Full HD resolution. The phablet is also rumored to feature a fingerprint sensor on the rear, as well as boast a high-resolution 4-UltraPixel primary camera.

Under the hood, the HTC One Max will likely house a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, a step up from the Snapdragon 600 processor found on the flagship HTC One. The device is expected to have 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage space.

With just a week to go until the expected launch of the HTC One Max, we'll have to wait and see if it debuts on Oct. 15 in the U.S.
