Samsung Galaxy Watch Brings Support For Nest And Ring Camera Video Live Streams And More

With the release of an update, Samsung is enabling more smart home functions including the ability to watch live streams from Google's Nest and Ring cameras on the Galaxy Watch.

According to Engadget, smart air purifiers, thermostats, and blinds will all soon be among the products that users may operate from their wrist.

The Galaxy Watch Is Integrating With More Smart Home Devices

New smart home gadgets will soon be supported by the Samsung Galaxy Watch's SmartThings app, including air purifiers, thermostats, and blinds.

By doing this, the app's already-existing ability to control TVs, lights, speakers, and other devices is enhanced.

However, the ability to stream live video feeds from security cameras supplied by Google Nest and Amazon's Ring brand may be more intriguing than anything else.

Users of the Galaxy Watch will be able to watch live feeds from a Nest, Ring, or video doorbell from their wrist thanks to this connectivity.

With Ring cameras, the integration is even more thorough because two-way conversation is supported right from the wristband, 9to5 Google notes.

This may serve as a motivation for people to select Ring over Nest if they do not yet own any security cameras but have been considering purchasing some.

The fact that these functions may be accessed by "swiping right from the Watch face to easily reach SmartThings" suggests that Wear OS 3 will support Tiles as well.

As a result, Samsung's statement implies that this experience will only be accessible to Galaxy Watch models running Wear OS, such as the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 5.

At this moment, Wear OS is notable for having an official Google Home app, but with support for a tile and cameras, SmartThings undoubtedly has a slight advantage.

However, as of writing, Samsung has not provided additional comments and any images of this experience as a preview.

The company also provides no information regarding the precise launch date of the upgrade for its Samsung Galaxy Watch.

Meanwhile, Samsung claims that the update is "coming soon" and that it is currently not accessible to customers.

Samsung Also Announced Display Enhancements For Its Galaxy Watch Last Week

Aside from additional smart home support, according to a recent rumor, Samsung established a team last year to commercialize microLED displays for smartwatches.

According to GSM Arena, making a commercially viable solution for smartwatches is not that far-fetched given that the company already sells high-end microLED TVs.

In fact, according to those with knowledge of the situation, the team's deadline to produce such is this year.

Now, users will not anticipate that this year's Galaxy Watches or Apple Watches will have these displays, even if the newly formed Samsung team succeeds in their endeavors.

Both brands' wearables for this year are probably completely through with development, but watches for the next year could see a significant improvement.

In terms of brightness and energy efficiency, microLED screens even outperform OLEDs, providing improved sunlight legibility.
