Meta, the parent company of Instagram, Messenger, and Facebook, is launching an Account Center that will let users manage their preferences through one centralized hub. You can use any of the three Meta platforms to update your settings for all accounts under it.
Accounts Center
No need to switch between platforms to change your account settings. All you have to do is head to the settings menu found in any of Meta's apps, and tailor the apps to your liking by changing the settings.
Among the settings you can change, it includes personal details, passwords, security, ad preferences, payments, app permissions, and more. You will have to add the accounts to the Accounts Center just as you can remove them anytime, according to The Verge.
For instance, you can bring your ad topic preference to both Instagram and Facebook by adding them to your Accounts Center. For personal details, you can update your contact information, manage identity confirmation, and adjust memorialization preferences.
Accounts Center can also help you manage your passwords for both accounts, as well as add two-factor authentication, login alerts, monitor login activity, and view where your account has been logged in.
In terms of information and permission, you can adjust how you upload your contacts, manage your search history, as well as preferences for your browser and cookies. For payments, you can adjust the settings for Ads payments or Meta Pay.
Of course, there are limitations to the centralized settings center. You can't apply your preferences specific to that app like Notifications and Activity Log. The Accounts Center isn't capable of accessing, downloading, managing, and transferring your information.
Device settings for a specific app are also not applicable to the new center, wherein a user can adjust Media, Dark and Light Modes, or cellular data usage settings. You also can't change settings regarding who can see and interact with you and your posts in each app.
Ad Settings Controls
Meta also implemented changes to its ad settings to help users understand and manage their ad experience across Meta technologies, as mentioned in Meta's news post. Data about a user's data from Partners' control has been updated.
Data is now called Activity Information. It shows how the activity of users sent from other websites and apps is used to influence the ads that appear on their feeds. Users will also see their options regarding ads shown by meta on other apps and websites.
For better control over the ads that a user sees, Meta is exploring ways to allow people to see more ads about the things that they are interested in. This adds to the option of seeing less of a certain ad or indicating that they are not interested in it.
Although the Accounts Center started out in 2020, the changes won't be available to everyone right away. It will gradually be released in the coming months to all users on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger.
