Valentine's day is fast approaching, and Cupid will soon be taking to the skies with his bow and arrow to help people find love.
However, Cupid's arrows are not just for people in the real world. Video game characters can find love as well, though with a little bit of help from the player.
Here are some games with romance options that you can play to celebrate Valentine's Day.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has great gameplay, a solid soundtrack, and an engaging story. It also has romance options that are dear to the series' main protagonist, Geralt of Rivia.
However, the game doesn't have a lot of romance options like the rest of the games on this list, the game has a more "quality over quantity" approach.
The game allows you to choose between the two most important women (all of them witches!) in Geralt's life: Yennefer of Vengerberg, his destined according to the books, and Triss Merigold, the woman that took care of him during his time as an amnesiac Witcher.
Choosing either of the two greatly impacts how Geralt's story will ultimately end. However, you can also choose both or neither, though you may not like what happens to the White Wolf if you choose these paths.
The Mass Effect Series
Considered by many as Bioware's magnum opus when it comes to romances, the Mass Effect series, or at least the Commander Shepard trilogy, has many romance branches for you to enjoy and experience.
The game has both quantity and quality when it comes to romance options, but none of them affect the trilogy's ultimate ending much. You can romance various members of Shepard's crew in the Normandy, from fellow humans like Ashley and Steve to aliens like Garrus and Liara.
The game doesn't lack inclusivity either. You can play as a straight or gay Shepard in either gender, allowing you to fulfill your interstellar romance the way you want. However, while some romances are Disney princess-sweet, others can be as bittersweet as cranberries.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Fire Emblem: Three Heroes fans know how good of a game it is. It combines strategic turn-based combat and real-time tactics with in-depth character customization that lets you roleplay as much as you want.
This level of detail is also present in the game's romance options, which makes the game even more endearing as it lets you know more about your romance partner in and out of the battlefield. Additionally, you have the option of marrying your romance partner, sealing your commitment to them after a time skip.
Unfortunately, this marriage won't result in playable children, meaning you are unable to play as the child of your chosen character and your romance partner, unlike in Fire Emblem: Awakening.
The Sims 4
The best romance story is the story you make... or at least that's what The Sims 4 wants you to believe.
The game lets players create a Sim - a character they will be playing with for them to roleplay with. Players can create any kind of sim they want with nothing to hold them back. They can create a plain and simple human or a lesbian vampire, a transexual werewolf, and even an asexual alien.
Regardless, the game allows players to start romancing other sims as soon as they're in their teenage years, simulating people's early forays into love and exploring their sexuality. This will either culminate into a life-long relationship that could last forever or be broken by infidelity or other reasons, such as death.
Whatever Sim you wish to play with, the game gives you all the freedom you could ever need to write and enact your very own love story right in front of your eyes.
Persona 5
Persona 5 is one of the best JRPGS of all time for a good reason. According to Inverse, it packs in some of the best storytelling and character games along with great combat and gameplay mechanics all in one game.
The game also has excellent romance options for you to choose from, and it handles it well through its deeper emphasis on character relationships. While you need to balance your relationship with fellow members of your team as the leader of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts, you can deepen them into something more than just friends and comrades through its dating sim formula - the most interactive one implemented in the series.
This dating sim formula involves you taking your love interest on dates and spending holidays with them, with all possible routes having the capacity to warm your heart.
