Nexus 5 press images with Telus branding leak

New images of the Nexus 5 have leaked, showing the smartphone will likely be headed to Canada, as it has TELUS splash screen displayed.

Google is expected to hold an event in the next couple of days to officially launch the latest version of its mobile operating system, Android 4.4 KitKat. The company will also unveil the Nexus 5, its next-generation Nexus smartphone that will be the first device to ship with the new OS. The smartphone will be sold unlocked through the Google Play Store for reportedly $399 for 16GB and $449 for 32GB. There hasn't been any indication regarding which U.S. carrier Google will partner with to carry the subsidized Nexus 5, but a strong contender is T-Mobile, since it partnered with the carrier to sell its Nexus 4.

A new report from MobileSyrup claims that the Nexus 5 will be available in Canada through TELUS. The site has posted images of the smartphone with TELUS splash screens. The images match up to previously-leaked photos of the Nexus 5. All of the sensors are in the right spots and most notably we see Android 4.4 KitKat's slightly redesigned home screen. The frosted app drawer button, indicator dots above to show how many home screens there are, and navigation buttons also appear with the background compared to the black background of previous releases.

The Nexus 5 is expected to feature a 5-inch 1080 x 1920 Full HD IPS display with a pixel density of 442 pixels per inch (ppi). It will reportedly be powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, have between 2GB to 4GB of RAM and launch as the first smartphone to run Android 4.4 KitKat.

The handset will include an 8-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat. The smartphone's wireless capabilities are expected to include a 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, and GPS, as well as support for wireless charging out of the box. It is expected to be offered in 16GB or 32GB internal storage configurations and use a 2,300mAh battery.

Google is expected to officially announce the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat before the end of October.
