6 Things You Can Do With Old Gaming Consoles

Gaming consoles have been around for a while, and with new releases every few years, you are bound to buy the latest model and leave the old one to gather dust. Don't let it go to waste. Just because it's old doesn't mean it lacks potential. Here are some things you can do with old consoles.

1. Use It as A Media Player

A lot of old console units are able to function as DVD players. If you have some old DVDs lying around and you happen to find one that you want to watch, your console can serve as a DVD player. Some of the more recent ones can even access apps like Netflix, so you can use it for other TVs.

2. Repurpose the Console or its Components

When you crack open a console, you'll see just how many parts it has and you'll be surprised to know that you can still use those. As suggested by Make Use Of, you can repurpose your N64 into a Nintendo Switch dock, use an NES controller into an MP3 player, or turn a SNES gamepad into a USB controller.

3. Sell Them

It may be an old dusty electronic to you, but console enthusiasts are willing to pay a huge sum for it, especially if it still works. There are even buyers who would pay a reasonable amount for broken consoles since they can fix them themselves and sell them for a higher price.

Although it would be better if you just have it fixed and sell it yourself in working condition. Vintage gaming consoles are no longer in production. Classics are classics, and since they aren't produced anymore, you'll always find one who wants to add them to their collection.

4. Collect Them Yourself

If you've been buying consoles for years, you probably have an impressive collection. You can clean them up and put them on shelves just to show fellow avid gamers that you still have your old consoles. It may seem like clutter to others but it's a dream for collectors.

Even if you don't have a vast collection, you can still set them up in your room, or better yet, a game room. You can also deconstruct the console and arrange it in a frame turning it into a fun decorative project you can hang up your wall.

5. Donate Them

If you don't want to go through the trouble of finding someone who wants to buy an old console, you can just donate them. Other than making someone else happy for it, you'll also allow them to experience the fun you've had that got you playing until now, if you are.

6. Recycle Them

Don't just throw away your old console. Other than that being a waste, consoles are also full of toxic materials. When it decomposes, it can leak and cause a toxic environment for plants and animals. Instead, find a recycling service and let them dispose of or recycle it properly, as mentioned by Kotaku.
