Snapchat Rolls Out Its Own ChatGPT-Powered Chatbot 'My AI'

Using the most recent version of ChatGPT, a fast expanding generative text tool developed by OpenAI, Snapchat on Monday released its own chatbot under the name "My AI."

According to Snap CEO Evan Spiegel, this is a wager that more people will start using AI chatbots in their daily lives, The Verge writes.

My AI Will Aid Users Towards A More Enjoyable Experience

The Snapchat bot, dubbed "My AI," will be pinned to the chat tab of the app above friend discussions.

A custom chatbot called My AI is now only accessible to Snapchat+ subscribers, who pay $3.99 a month to gain access to "exclusive, experimental, and pre-release features."

In a statement unveiling the new function, Snapchat stated that My AI may also propose birthday gifts for friends, assist users in planning weekend getaways, and provide dinner recipe suggestions.

"The big idea is that in addition to talking to our friends and family every day, we're going to talk to AI every day, and this is something we're well positioned to do as a messaging service," Spiegel says.

My AI is currently only a quick ChatGPT inside of Snapchat that is mobile-friendly, but it is more restricted in regard to what it can answer.

Employees at Snap have instructed it to follow the company's trust and safety policies and refrain from responding with profanity, violence, sexual content, or viewpoints on touchy subjects like politics.

Additionally, the feature that has previously led to ChatGPT being prohibited in several schools has been removed.

With that said, as more users use My AI and report improper responses, Snap intends to continue fine-tuning it.

Snapchat Implements ChatGPT More Like An AI Persona

While ChatGPT has swiftly evolved into a tool for productivity, Snap's version of generative AI treats it as more of a persona.

With the exception of having its own alien Bitmoji, My AI's Snapchat profile page resembles that of any other user.

My AI is not intended to be a search engine, according to the design, but rather just another friend for users to hang out with inside of Snapchat.

According to The Verge, Snap is in a peculiar position because its user base is deceptively vast and young, but its company is having trouble.

My AI will probably increase the company's paid membership numbers in the near future, and in the long run, it may provide new revenue streams, though Spiegel is cautious about his goals.

Snap is one of the first customers of Foundry, the new enterprise offering from OpenAI that enables businesses to run their most recent GPT-3.5 model with a dedicated computer geared toward heavy workloads.

Over time, Snap will probably include LLMs from other suppliers besides OpenAI, according to Spiegel, and it will utilize the information acquired by the chatbot to guide its more extensive AI projects.

My AI may be simple to begin with, but Spiegel views it as the beginning of a big investment area for Snap and, more crucially, a future in which users will all be conversing with AI as if it were a person.
