Meta is putting its support to ChatGPT-style AI, joining Google, Microsoft, and other well-known companies.
According to Engadget, Mark Zuckerberg says that in the long run, his business intends to create "AI personas."
AI Personas Are Coming To Multiple Services And Platforms
It was really just a matter of time before Meta entered this market given the development of chatbot AI technologies by digital behemoths like Microsoft, Google, and even Snapchat.
CEO of Meta Mark Zuckerberg made a brief announcement on his Facebook page today regarding the company's plans to develop generative AI capabilities for its many services.
According to Zuckerberg, Meta will "turbocharge" its AI efforts by consolidating a number of its teams into one top-level product division.
In order to integrate engaging experiences around this technology into all of the company's various products, the CEO claims that the company is bringing together the teams working on generative AI across the company.
"In the short term, we'll focus on building creative and expressive tools. Over the longer term, we'll focus on developing AI personas that can help people in a variety of ways," he says.
Zuckerberg continues by saying that Meta is now investigating text-based (like messaging in WhatsApp and Messenger), visual (like inventive Instagram effects and ad formats), and multi-modal experiences.
He did acknowledge that the AI team at Meta still needs to conduct "a lot of foundational work before getting to the really futuristic experiences."
However, as Neowin reports, the CEO remains "enthusiastic" about the work this new team will produce in the meantime.
Although Zuckerberg did not give many specifics about what those tools would be, users speculate that they would be on par with well-known AI profile picture generators and related apps.
It can be remembered that prior to this, Zuckerberg disclosed that Meta will make its LLaMA large language AI model available to researchers.

The Tech Giant Is Not New To AI Technology
Engadget notes that the company has experience with various forms of user-facing AI, having added chatbots to Messenger in 2016.
However, considering the industry's increased emphasis on generative AI, this expansion is not surprising and signals a considerable change.
According to reports, OpenAI's ChatGPT is putting pressure on Internet giants like Google since it might conceivably harm search and other large industries.
Zuckerberg stated that he wants Meta to be a "leader" in generative AI on the most recent earnings call, but this statement might also be used defensively.
However, the change does not come at any better time because Meta's revenues are still declining as of now.
Allegedly, at its Reality Laboratories division, its shift to the metaverse has proved to be expensive in the billions.
It can also be remembered that in an attempt to cut company costs, almost 11,000 positions were recently terminated in an effort to survive a difficult economic climate.
This information proves that the company is not as stable as it once was, despite the fact that websites like Facebook and Instagram continue to attract new users.
