There were recent rumblings that Sprint plans to offer the Nexus 5 once it becomes official. Images of the smartphone have now supposedly been uncovered on the carrier's website.
The Nexus 5 is expected to be officially announced in the next few days. The smartphone has certainly kept itself in the headlines leading up to its launch. The 5-inch LG-built handset will reportedly join an updated Nexus 4 in Google's Nexus smartphone lineup. The Nexus 5 will follow Google's tradition of selling a high-end smartphone that is guaranteed to receive the latest Android updates and be available at an affordable price.
Google has partnered with carriers in the past to sell Nexus handsets. It brought Verizon to the Galaxy Nexus party in 2011 and joined forces with T-Mobile to sell the Nexus 4 last year. Google could see the smartphone get launched on all four major carriers, just as it did with the Moto X. Images of the Nexus 5 have reportedly been uncovered on Sprint's site. The image does not show any Sprint branding, but the deck of cards is the Sprint giveaway. The carrier uses the same graphic with all of its smartphones in order to give customers a better idea of the size of the handset.
The Nexus 5 is expected to feature a 5-inch 1080 x 1920 Full HD IPS display with a pixel density of 442 pixels per inch (ppi) and be the first device to launch with Android 4.4 KitKat. It is expected to be powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB of RAM. The handset will include an 8-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat. The smartphone's wireless capabilities are expected to include a 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, NFC, and GPS. The Nexus 5 will be offered in 16GB and 32GB internal storage variants and use a 2,300mAh battery.
The latest rumors point to the Nexus 5 getting officially announced on Nov. 1, so for now we'll have to wait a few more days to get the full details on the Nexus 5.
