Apple had just released its latest OS update, iOS 16.4.1, this April 8th. With that being said, the tech giant decided to stop signing iOS 16.3.1, as it serves as a downgrade to the recently released iOS updates.
iOS 16.3.1 Unsigned
The iOS 16.3.1 has been unsigned along with other Apple devices operating systems such as iPadOS 16.3., tvOS 16.3.2, and audioOS 16.3.2. The update was first released back in February 13th with a few updates.
The update includes bug fixes, security improvements, Crash Detection optimization of the iPhone 14 lineups, and more, as mentioned in MacRumors. The same might happen soon for iOS 16.4, so users will have to downgrade soon if they wish to.
Apple regularly shuts down previous iOS versions to prevent users from downgrading to outdated operating systems. Doing so might cause various system functions to not work, which could also happen for apps that no longer support older versions.
Latest iOS Update
The latest update Apple released is iOS 16.4.1, and it comes with a bug fix for Siri, which resolves the virtual assistant's faulty response to certain commands. Apple also added new skin tones for the new pushing hands emoji that was released in the previous update.
To download the latest update, head on to Settings, then General, and then Software Updates. While the Os is available for download, not all iPhone models are eligible. The ones that start from the iPhone SE second generation up to the iPhone 14 models.
Following the release, Apple might also be working on the iOS 16.5 version. If they move fast enough, the iOS 17 might be ready just in time to be introduced for the WWDC event that will take place in June 2023.
Upcoming Apple OS
Apple may very well be prepared to release iOS 17 in the coming WWDC 2023, which is the company's annual conference dedicated to revealing its newest releases for both software and hardware like operating systems and new devices.
According to 9To5Mac, Apple could immediately release a beta version of the upcoming iOS following its unveiling, although it will only be available to the developers, as it is with previous beta version releases from Apple.
Aside from the rumor that the OS is nicknamed "Dawn," Bloomberg reports that we may not see much from iOS 17, given the possibility that Apple is more focused on its AR/VR headset, instead of developing new features for iOS 17.
Still, there will be new features. iOS 17 might finally come with some of the features that iPhone users have been requesting. For one, Apple could be implementing "major changes" on its flagship devices' Control Center, which hasn't been changed since iOS 11.
New iOS versions mean older devices will be left behind. According to reports, the iOS 17 will no longer support devices like the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and the iPhone X. Although an anonymous source said that devices compatible with iOS 16 can download iOS 17.
