What Would the World Be Like if the Internet Did Not Exist?

Ever since the Internet has slowly become widely used, a lot of people have become dependent on it. It has provided us with both advantages and disadvantages, and arguably shaped the world in more ways than people would know, but what would the world be like if it was never invented?

1. Communicating Will Be Less Convenient

Without the Internet, people would still rely on telephones or cell phones for calls or texts. If you don't want an expensive bill, then you won't be able to make long-distance calls. The Internet has provided us with messaging apps that we can use for free.

We can send various content such as photos and videos through social media and messaging platforms, as well as reach people no matter where they are. Sending an image or video through the mail will take days if not weeks before they arrive, as opposed to instant messaging.

2. We'd Have No Access to Vast Amounts of Knowledge

You've probably lost count of how much you've turned to Google every time you need to know something right away, as mentioned in The National News. Whether it's the actions you need to take in an emergency situation or searching for answers to a question that's been bugging you.

The Internet gives us the information we want and need in just a few clicks, and optimistically speaking, people are smarter for it. Curious people might not find what they're after in their local libraries and geographical barriers will limit their access to what they want to learn.

3. We'd Lose a Lot of Data

The permanence of whatever is uploaded on the web can be terrifying, but it is also very helpful in terms of preserving important information. Because of the Internet, we can upload photos, videos, and more to the cloud, making it less likely for us to lose them.

There's also the preservation of knowledge. Essential intelligence might otherwise be lost through time if it was only written on paper, or saved on devices that might break. The Internet preserves our history, both the old, and new, good and the bad.

4. Fewer Means for Entertainment Media

Blockbuster was all the rage before streaming services were a thing. People would go to physical stores to look at stacks of movies and shows to rent or buy. If the Internet never gave us a way to stream videos online, Blockbuster would probably still be operational.

Now, we have countless ways to watch videos, movies, and TV shows. We have streaming sites and apps like YouTube, Netflix, HBO Max, Apple TV, and more. Without them, we'd probably still have DVD players plugged into the TV, as pointed out by Hub Pages.

5. You'll Be Socially Limited

Having no Internet may result in people losing touch with one another. Now, it's possible that people in their early 20s are still friends with their high school buddies since it's easier to reach them and catch up. We're also reminded of their existence through social media posts.

People will also have no means to connect with people that have the same interests all around the world. People who have similar passions can find an entire community that shares that liking, which provides them with a place where they feel like they belong.
