The Super Mario Bros. Movie has shattered many records after hitting the cinemas earlier this month. Its enormous success at the box office is a good indication that a follow-up movie will be made. For Jack Black, who lent his voice to the movie's main villain Bowser, the right person to play the potential sequel's big bad is none other than Pedro Pascal as Wario.
Jack Black Plays with the Idea of Bowser Siding with the Good Guys to Defeat Wario
Bowser is known to be the central antagonist of the Super Mario Bros. video game universe, which is why putting the character in the Super Mario Bros. Movie as the main villain doesn't come as a surprise. However, if the movie does spawn a sequel, there are other villainous video game characters that can be introduced to follow in Bowser's footsteps. In an interview with GameSpot, the 53-year-old actor, comedian, and musician teased some great ideas for the possible sequel.
While there is a possibility that Bowser will return for a potential sequel after Super Mario Bros. Movie, it is also likely that other villains from the Super Mario Bros. universe will make their debut in the follow-up movie. Black said that Bowser's return is "not a given," and he cited his Kung Fu Panda movies as an example of how every installment features a different villain.
In the interview, an idea was raised that if a new villain will be introduced, the Super Mario Bros sequel "could pull a Fast & Furious" and turn Bowser into the good side as Mario and Luigi take on the new menace. This is something Black agreed with, then he added a thought that the sequel could have "a more powerful, more evil villain" that will force Bowser to help Mario and the gang to defend their world "against some other unseen force of evil."
Another interesting idea came from Black as he said that the dangerous villain of the next Super Mario Bros. Movie should be Wario, and the actor who should play the part is Pedro Pascal.
Jack Black Feels Proud of Super Mario Bros. Movie Introducing Nintendo Characters
In an interview with PEOPLE, Black revealed that he is proud of what their team has accomplished for Super Mario Bros. Movie. Speaking at the Los Angeles premiere of the movie, he said that he wanted to make "a funny, exciting action-adventure," and they were able to deliver that in the animated film.
"And you know what else we did? We also used all the characters from the Nintendo universe. And if you like playing Mario Kart or any of those Nintendo video games, when you see this movie, you're going to go, 'Whoa,' because there's a bunch of little Easter eggs that only the gamers will really recognize and really appreciate. I'm really happy about that," Black added.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie snatched the record for the biggest opening day for an animated film. Its global box office gross is $375.6 million. Aside from Black, the movie also stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong.
