When an upcoming movie has well-known actors in them or already has an established franchise and storyline, you would normally expect them to be good. However, some have disappointed the majority of its viewers because it didn't meet their expectations. Here are a few.
1. 'Cats' (2019)
The movie already had a good foundation since it was based on the award-winning musical of the same title in 1981. However, the movie did not exactly impress people. Viewers were more disturbed than delighted by the cat-human hybrid that is the characters. The film's loss was around $70 million to $100 million.
2. 'After Earth' (2013)
"After Earth" wasn't the first movie Will and Jaden Smith starred in together. Young Jaden was also in "The Pursuit of Happiness" which had people feeling many emotions all at the same time. Sadly, the sci-fi movie did not have that effect, and people were disappointed by it. The movie lost $30 million.
3. 'Dolittle' (2020)
You would think that a whimsical fantasy movie starring Robert Downey Jr. would be a hit, but it was the exact opposite. Aside from being subjected to a long delay, the movie had way too big of a budget, which was $175 million. The film's loss was an astounding $100 million, as mentioned in Work and Money.
4. 'Mulan' (2020)
People had high expectations for the reboot because its predecessor was loved by many, so it was a sad turn of events to see that most of what they liked about the animated movie was gone. Most importantly, where was Mushu?
The Chinese dragon was a huge part of the story, yet he was nowhere to be found in the movie. There were also critics who pointed out that there was not much character development. Mulan already knew how to fight before she even left for battle.

5. 'Tomorrowland' (2015)
The sci-fi film starring George Clooney was not exactly a terrible movie. It had its ups and downs, yes, but it wasn't terrible. Sad to say that it wasn't good enough to make up for the movie budget. The film lost $82.6 million to $163 million, and reports say the film even had a massive marketing budget of $280 million.
6. 'Green Lantern' (2011)
Ryan Reynold's "Green Lantern." unlike the other movies on the list, actually made up for the budget. It had a global gross of $220 million, with a budget of $200 million. Still, DC fans were not happy about the movie's outcome, so much so that it has a 26% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 5.5 score on IMDb.
7. 'Son of the Mask' (2005)
Jim Carrey's "The Mask" was a big hit. It had a small budget of $20 million and grossed roughly $350 million globally, according to CBS. The sequel with a much bigger budget of $100 million, yet it only grossed $59.9 million, which is the complete opposite of the financial outcome of the 1994 film.
