Horizon: Forbidden West Burning Shores DLC Size Details

The Horizon series is no stranger to large DLCs. You may recall that the series' first game, Horizon Zero Dawn, required 9GB of storage space at most, per WccfTech. According to How Long to Beat, it added 7.5 hours of gameplay time thanks to the content it added to the game: it has a new storyline and area for players to follow and explore, new machines to go up against, and enhancements for the PlayStation 4 Pro, per the PlayStation Store.

While gamers welcomed The Frozen Wilds, video game developer Guerilla Games wanted to provide more for their first DLC for Horizon Forbidden West. This desire could explain why Forbidden West's first DLC, Burning Shores, requires almost 18GB of storage space to function - almost double that of Zero Dawn's Frozen Wilds, per PlayStation Game Size.

While the size sounds significant enough to make some gamers worry about their storage space, gamers in the US, EU, and Japan may not have to worry because that's not the final size. PlayStation Game Size mentioned that the DLC would only need 16.7GB of storage space for players in the EU, while those living in Japan could download the DLC with only 14.92GB.

Meanwhile, US gamers will only need to find 15GB of storage space to download and play the DLC.

If the size is anything to go about, Burning Shores will have quite the content to add for players of Forbidden West. However, they must complete the game's main story before they can enjoy the DLC's content, though it doesn't add much game time to Forbidden West.

Gameranx's article, which cites a HowLongToBeat report as a reference, stated that Burning Shores could add 7 to 8 hours of playtime to the game.

Horizon Forbidden West: burning Shores comes with new storylines, characters, and experiences as players follow Aloy beyond the Forbidden West. There she'll explore the ruins of Los Angeles, which has been turned into a volcanic and violent archipelago, per the PlayStation Store.

While the base game is available on both the PlayStation 4 and 5, the DLC is only available for the latter video game console due to the former's technical limitations, per Pocket Lint. This limitation means that PS4 gamers who wish to play Burning Shores will need to get a PS5 to do so.

Pre-ordering the DLC comes with a couple of items for players to customize and equip Aloy with - a Blacktide Dye outfit and a Blacktide Sharpshot Bow.
