WhatsApp is getting even more new features in the future.
Meta is reportedly working on adding animated emojis to its secure messaging app, WhatsApp, though there's not much else to prove that the company is doing so.
The potential addition of animated emojis on WhatsApp is the latest development in the app's future features as of press time.
WhatsApp Animated Emojis Details
WABetaInfo mentioned in its latest post that Meta, through its WhatsApp subsidiary, is allegedly developing animated emojis, which Meta reportedly designed using Lottie, for users to use and send to their contacts and loved ones in the future.
For those unaware, Lottie is an optimized library that gives designers the ability to create animations quickly and easily without turning the resulting file into a storage space hogger, per 9to5Google.
According to the code digger, it found the potential addition of animated emojis during the development of WhatsApp Desktop beta, and Meta is planning on adding the upcoming feature in one of the app's future updates. Adding such a feature is expected to enhance user experience while sending messages to make doing so more fun and to communicate the sender's feelings more effectively.
While WABetaInfo didn't mention the number of animated emoji Meta will be adding to the app, the video it added to its post somewhat confirms that a celebration animated emoji is among them. Additionally, it seems that these animated emojis will replace the static ones by default when the former is available, much like Telegram does with their emojis.
Whether users will have control over enabling or disabling animated emojis is still unclear as of press time. However, what is clear is that many users could appreciate the addition of animated emojis to the messaging app, as some prefer having "a simple messaging experience without unnecessary animations."
As of press time, animated emojis are still under development and are coming to the messaging platform through WhatsApp's desktop beta. When the update containing the animated emoji feature will be arriving is still uncertain, though it will soon arrive in WhatsApp beta for iOS and Android in a future update.
WhatsApp's Other Future Updates
Animated emojis aren't the only feature WhatsApp and Meta are working to bring to users. The company previously announced it would soon release three new security features that would keep users safe from potential threat actors in the coming months.
Meanwhile, the company is also working on other features it has yet to officially announce. For instance, the company is developing a companion mode for Android devices that lets users use their accounts across multiple phones, allowing them to connect these phones like they would with other non-mobile devices.
Additionally, the company is working on a bottom navigation bar that gives Android users a quick and easily accessible way to switch between their chats, communities, status, and calls. This particular feature is already available on WhatsApp's iOS version for quite some time.
