#EntertainmentTech 5 Movies Based on the Lives of Scientists That You Should Watch

The modern world as we know it today is built on the scientific contributions of the experts that came before us. However, we know very little about them apart from what we know from high school textbooks

Here are the movies that would shed more light on the lives of the brilliant minds that proved to the rest of humanity that the impossible can be made possible.

'Theory of Everything'

Stephen Hawking was one of the most popular scientists of our time, but most of the world knows him as the scientist who's confined to a wheelchair and could only talk through a text-to-speech computer.

Not many know his life before his confinement to a wheelchair due to his motor neuron disease, and this is what the movie "theory of Everything" seeks to rectify.

The movie is a romantic biodrama set during the great scientist's time as a college student as he falls in love with his wife, learns of the disease affecting him, and figures out the theory that he would one day be known for, per Rotten Tomatoes.

'Hidden Figures'

The Space race is one of Humanity's best ways to encourage friendly competition between rival nations. In a bid to outdo each other, the Soviet Union and the United States go head-to-head to see who's more superior technologically speaking.

"Hidden Figures" is a movie about the story of three brilliant African American women at NASA, per Rotten Tomatoes. These women, Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson, were among the people who helped the first American, John Glenn, to orbit Earth after the Soviets sent Yuri Gagarin into outer space - the first human to do in history, per NASA and the Encyclopedia Britannica.

The movie spreads awareness about and celebrates the contributions these three women gave during a time often overshadowed by Gagarin's achievement and Apollo 11's success.

'The Man Who Knew Infinity'

The early 20th century is a time of great upheaval for many nations during and after the Great War. However, it didn't topple down the racism that prevented people of different ethnicities from working together as equals.

"The Man Who Knew Infinity" tells the story of Srinivasa Ramanujan, the Indian who became a prominent pioneer in mathematical theories with the guidance of his British professor, G.H. Hardy.

However, being a student in the United Kingdom comes with its own set of challenges - the weather, the cultural differences between two ethnicities, and the racial prejudice the British have at the time for their Indian subjects. Can Ramanujan prove his worth against these odds?

'Agora'

Rome was at a religious turning point during the late 3rd century. Christianity was on the rise and the many institutions that supported slavery and learning are at risk of being toppled by the rising new order at the time.

The movie "Agora" was set in such a time, and focuses on a learned woman, Hypatia, as she teaches astronomy, mathematics, and philosophy to her students in Roman Alexandria.

The movie revolves around Hypatia's desire to teach her students and learn more about the world, the movement of celestial bodies, and 'the brotherhood of all," but her disinterest in faith makes her a prime target for the zealous Christians that want to rearrange how things ran in the most powerful empire the world has ever seen, per IMDb.

'The Secret of Nikola Tesla'

Nikola Tesla is one of the most renowned inventors and scientists of his time, but many of his inventions are famously stolen from him and sometimes even wrongly credited to others. However, his contributions still echo in our modern world, and without him, our world would look much different.

"The Secret Life of Nikola Tesla" sheds some light on Tesla's life, though dramatized for the big screen. Amazon's synopsis says that the movie features mystery and intrigue for the renowned inventor, making for a movie worth watching.
