It looks like Twitter has another thing to resolve again after users complain of being logged out and not being able to log in after. The company already has a lot on its plate, and an outage is probably the last thing it needs.
Involuntary Log Out
Users have complained that their accounts have been logged out of the website, and then not able to get back in after. Although I'm not experiencing the outage, many others worldwide have reported that they have around 3:45 PM EST.
Affected users attempted to log their accounts in, and although it appears to work, they will eventually land on the logout URL. The outage is affecting those who use Google Chrome and Chromebook, with other users saying that their account in Mozilla Firefox remains logged in,
According to Bleeping Computer, trying to enter a user account on the second attempt will lead to a prompt asking for additional information. It will state that the account has had unusual activity, and upon entering information, will still refuse to log back in.
I checked my own account to see if I had been affected as well, but I am still logged in. I tried to log out and then log back in just to check if the bug will kick in, but I was still able to enter my account just fine using the Google Chrome browser.
The last login problem that has been reported was from the UK, 20 minutes prior as of writing, but DownForEveryoneOrJustMe states that there are no problems with Twitter and that the outage on May 2nd lasted for about four hours.
There are also reports from the US and Canada regarding logins within the hour, while others reported that the platform has been slow, or that they have received an error. So far, Twitter users have just had complaints and there has been no news of the issue being resolved.
The highest report count on Down Detector has been 4,133, but it has since gone down to around 85 reports in the past hour. 52% had complaints about the login, 45% were about the website, and 4% claimed it was an issue with the server.
Twitter Could Use a Break
The platform has been heavily criticized ever since Twitter CEO Elon Musk acquired it and took over. Since then, there have been a number of issues, and not only has it lost revenue, but it has lost users as well.
The first heavy blow to the platform is the departure of advertisers, which has been the biggest source of revenue for Twitter. Some felt like Musk's idea of "free speech" might not align with the values of the company.
The verification policy for Twitter Blue hasn't been received warmly as well. People refuse to pay the $8 to $11 monthly fee to retain certain perks and have the verification badge for their accounts. A lot of verified legacy users feel that the blue checkmark was not worth paying for.
