Apple Updates Trade-In Value for Its Phones

Trading in your phone for an Apple device is much more appealing now.

Apple recently updated its trade-in values for its devices and Android devices on its official website, which may or may not make getting an iOS device more appealing.

Not every device that Apple listed could be traded in, however. Old phones released decades ago may be recycled instead of traded in for a new device.

Apple New Trade-In Values

Apple quietly updated its official trade-in website with a mix of price increases, decreases that could encourage or discourage people from trading their phones in, and some price maintenance for good measure.

According to 9to5Mac, the last time Apple updated its trade-in values was in March, while it revamped its trade-in website sometime in April. Apple added or subtracted $10 to $30 from its new trade-in prices, with the new maximum trade-in available for an iPhone being $630, while the minimum is $40.

Whether these prices will make aspiring iPhone owners trade in their current devices is still up for debate.

With the new trade-in values, putting an iPhone 13 Pro Max up for trade can slash up to $630 from an iOS device's original price, while its lesser counterpart, the iPhone 13 Pro, can only cover up to $530. Meanwhile, the base and Mini models of the iPhone 13 could only cover up to $400 and $330, respectively.

Of course, the older a device gets, the lesser it is worth, meaning that if you wish to trade in an iPhone 7 for a newer iOS device, you may have to pay more upfront to get your upgrade.

A 2nd-gen iPhone SE only has up to $90 in trade-in value, while an iPhone 8 has up to $75 trade-in value. The iPhone 7 Plus and base iPhone 7 model only has a trade-in value of $60 and $40, respectively.

Anything much older than an iPhone 7 is getting recycled - a great choice if you wish to properly dispose of your old iPhone and help the environment in the process.

Trading an old iOS device could be done online or dropped off at a nearby Apple Store, though you may want to back up your data first before hitting the confirm button.

Trade-in Values for Android Devices

Apple is also accepting trade-ins with Android phones from other mobile phone companies like Samsung and Google. However, unlike Apple devices, the trade-in value of these phones would only be less than half of what an iPhone 13 Pro Max's trade-in value at most.

This difference means that Android users may have to pay more upfront despite having the best Android device currently in the market. For instance, a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G only has a trade-in value of up to $305, while its base model only has a $225 trade-in value.

On the other hand, a Google Pixel 6 Pro only has a $130 trade-in value, while a Google Pixel 5 only has an $85 trade-in value.
