Sprint offering Nexus 5 for $49.99 online

Sprint just launched the Nexus 5 and was charging $149.99 for the smartphone, but the carrier has a web-only deal for $99.99 plus a $50 mail-in rebate to bring the price down to $49.99.

The Nexus 5 is Google's latest smartphone and is also the first device to ship with the latest version of Android, Android 4.4 KitKat. The handset comes packed with high-end features any smartphone fan will appreciate, such as a sharp 1080p Full HD display, a super fast quad-core processor and an 8-megapixel camera all wrapped up in a thin and light smartphone.

What sets the Nexus 5 apart from other Android smartphones is the Nexus branding. When an updated version of Android comes out, smartphone manufactures have to test the OS on their hardware and before it ever reaches your phone it needs to go through carrier testing. This process could take months, but since the Nexus 5 is directly from Google you're guaranteed to always have the latest and greatest version of Android pushed to your handset when it's released.

Sprint launched the Nexus 5 a few days ago and was initially charging $149.99 when signing a new 2-year contract. The carrier has cut the price online, now offering the Nexus 5 for $99.99 and is including a $50 mail-in rebate, which brings the final cost of the smartphone down to $49.99.

The Sprint Nexus 5 features a 4.95-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD Corning Gorilla Glass 3 display with a pixel density of 445 pixels-per-inch (ppi) and runs the all new Android 4.4 KitKat OS. The smartphone is powered by a powerful 2.26GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit (GPU) and 2GB of RAM.

The Nexus 5 sports a high-end 8-megapixel rear camera with advanced features such as optical image stabilization (OIS), improved HDR+ mode and the ability to record 30FPS 1080p video. It also has a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat. The smartphone's wireless capabilities include a 4G LTE radio, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/nc, Bluetooth 4.0 with Bluetooth 4.0 LE abilities, NFC, and GPS. The handset comes with 16GB of internal storage and packs in a 2,300mAh battery, which will provide up to 13 hours of talk time. Moreover, the Nexus 5 supports wireless charging out of the box with a compatible wireless charger sold separately.

You can order the Sprint Nexus 5 online for $99.99 but after a $50 mail-in rebate the total cost of the smartphone is $49.99.
