Twitch Launches New Clip Editing Tool for Cross-Platform Promotion

Twitch is making it easy for content creators to promote themselves on other platforms.

The popular streaming platform recently announced it had launched a new clip editing tool that would make it easier for content creators to create short, vertical clips in seconds.

This new feature is available to some users as of press time, while Twitch slowly rolls it out for a global release.

Twitch New Clip Editing Tool Details

Twitch mentioned in a tweet it posted on its official Twitter page that it is rolling out its new clip editor this week. This new tool allows streamers and content creators to capture clips of their streams, convert them into portrait mode, and immediately share them to video-sharing platforms offering short-form videos like YouTube Shorts and TikTok.

Aside from converting clips to portrait mode, the new tool allows streamers to choose between full-or split-screen layouts. This feature allows streamers to rearrange the clip's format to show two feeds - a handy feature for interview live streams or showing their camera feed alongside gameplay footage, per The Verge.

Additionally, streamers can select and resize sections of their stream to fit the layout frames they want, with the tool providing selections that can be saved as defaults to make the creation process quicker. It also has a quick branding feature that inserts a streamer or user's Twitch handle onto the edited clips, allowing anyone who views it to go directly to their channel even if other people didn't credit them.

Tech Crunch reports that while the tool doesn't support direct sharing to TikTok or Instagram Reels as of press time, Twitch does plan to integrate such features in the future.

The company mentioned that it is committed to helping streamers grow and that its new clip editing tool is just a taste of its strategy to help them grow their viewer count while making it easier to promote their content on and off Twitch.

The new clip editor is web-based, meaning streamers can access it across all desktop platforms like Windows and MacOS when it eventually becomes available within the week. While the toll isn't available on Twitch's official app, the company is working on making it accessible through the app.

Public Feedback On Twitch's New Tool

Unexpectedly, the new tool is a boon for Twitch streamers, who are most likely relieved that Twitch's clip editing tool is now more convenient to use than what they previously did before.

As such, streamers and users showed their support for Twitch's new clip editing tool through the comment they left on the company's Twitter page.

Some Twitter users suggested Twitch add a section to its platform wherein people could watch these portrait mode clips a la TikTok, with a similar algorithm to boot. Whether Twitch would eventually add such a section is still a hotly contested topic in the comment section as of press time.
