Elon Musk has revealed the identity of his successor as Twitter CEO.
The Chief Twit recently revealed that former NBCUniversal head of sales Linda Yaccarino would soon succeed him as Twitter's CEO shortly after announcing her appointment.
Although Musk mentioned earlier that he found his successor, he didn't reveal their identity until just recently, with him providing only one clue for people to theorize and speculate on the pronoun he used.
Twitter's New CEO
Musk mentioned in his recent tweet that he was excited to welcome Yaccarino as Twitter's new CEO and reveal what they would be working on once she takes his place in around six weeks.
The Chief Twit himself mentioned that Yaccarino would focus primarily on business operations as CEO, while he would focus on product design and new technology as Twitter's Chief Technology Officer, just as he explained in his earlier tweets.
Lastly, Musk mentioned he is looking forward to working with Yaccarino to transform Twitter into X, the everything app Musk envisions Twitter would become under his supervision.
Yaccarino taking on the role of Twitter CEO is obvious in hindsight. The Wall Street Journal previously reported that sources familiar with the matter revealed that Yaccarino was "in talks" to take the job, though an NBCUniversal spokesperson disproved that report at the time.
Other likely candidates aside from Yaccarino include tech journalist Kara Swisher, former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, and former Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer.
Yaccarino is a sensible pick as Twitter's new CEO. She helped establish close collaborations with big brands, finding opportunities for product placements, and convincing them to advertise alongside TV shows, even those with risque content, per the BBC.
Case in point, she previously helped NBCUniversal establish and expand a partnership with Elon Musk's Twitter, especially in the coverage of the 2024 Olympic Games in which Twitter will host video from the event, per Engadget.
Business Insider's Claire Atkinson said that Yaccarino is a great pick for Twitter's CEO if the company is looking to monetize better than they have been.
"She's the kind of person that I can imagine Elon Musk needs," Atkinson added. "She won't be rolled over."
Elon Musk's Plans With Twitter
Musk has plans for Twitter even before he took over the company. Musk said that the US needs an everything app where users can make transactions like shopping, paying, and messaging in one platform, similar to how WeChat works.
He described this everything app as something like a "digital town square" where users can leave comments, and eventually make payments in both crypto or fiat currency.
However, before he could turn that idea into reality, he would either need to acquire Twitter first or build it from scratch.
Whether Musk is capable of actually creating the app he had in mind, no one knows. However, with Yaccarino as Twitter's CEO, perhaps he could turn Twitter into the everything app he envisioned.
