World Baking Day - the one day when everyone is encouraged to bake or enjoy something baked by others: from the simple bread enjoyed the world over to the artisan creations made specifically for those with a taste of the finer things.
Baking something of your own is a great way to celebrate such a worldwide event, but there are some items you'll definitely want to heave to make your creations as perfect as they can be.
Here are some baking tools and equipment that will help you create the perfect baked product:
Digital Kitchen Scale
While free balling your way into deliciousness is acceptable, it only is if you're experienced enough in the kitchen, and even then you'd still want to have something that measures how much of something you'll be adding just in case.
For this, having a digital kitchen scale is a better option than the ordinary one. It gives you the exact weight of the dry ingredients (ie. powdered ingredients) you'd be adding to your mix, allowing you to follow that recipe you found to the nearest hundredths or thousandths.
Having a digital kitchen scale also allows you to know how much to add or subtract as much as you want to match your tastes.
Hand/Stand Mixer
Mixing stuff by hand is a great exercise for your arms, forearms, and patience. However, there are times when you just want to let your hair down and relax while baking. That, or you just want a more thorough finish.
For that, having a hand/stand mixer allows you to take away the manual labor from the equation and focus on making sure that the consistency of whatever you're mixing is right on the money. Having either is good, but if you're looking to make huge amounts of dough/batter that requires minutes of mixing, get a stand mixer to do it for you.
Digital/Oven Thermometer
While there are ways to know if what you're baking is done or not, what's hard to distinguish is if your oven's at the right pre-heat or baking temperature to begin baking or even cooking. For this, having a digital oven thermometer would help you distinguish if your oven needs a recalibration or if it's reached pre-heat temperatures.
Meanwhile, digital thermometers can help check the internal temperature of the things you're baking, allowing you to decide whether it's done baking or not.
Ice Cream/Cookie Scoops
Ice cream scoops do well as advertised, but they can do more than just serve up ice cream into a neat ball you could put on an ice cream cone. They can also double as cookie scoops for your homemade choco-chipped cookies, or just plain old cookies topped with ice cream.
These scoops allow you to drop cookie dough in uniform size and shape, giving you a much more even product in the end.
Kitchen Torch
Making baked desserts like baked Alaska can be tedious, but they're rewarding when done right. However, while putting the meringue-topped delicacy is tempting to get burned peaks, it also runs the risk of drying up the entire top.
To make an isolated burn on substances common in baking like frosting or meringue, use a kitchen torch; it's easy and safe to use, not to mention it's relatively cheap to buy.
